Brevard High School Graduation 2019
On Friday night, June 7, 2019, the Brevard High School Blue Devils celebrated their Commencement Exercises at the Brevard Music Center.
Along with Dr. McDaris and the Board of Education chaired by Mrs. Tawny McCoy, teacher Kathryn Bailey and Principal Dr. Bryan Abernethy welcomed all to a fully-packed Whittington-Pfohl Auditorium in a gentle rain. The combined Marine Corps Junior ROTC of Brevard and Rosman High Schools presented the colors.
Student Body President Cullen Duval and Senior Class President Jackson Whitt addressed their fellow graduates, followed by Salutatorian Emily Trusler and Valedictorian John Nguyen.
Jackson Whitt then read the names of his fellow graduates as they received their diplomas, with 166 seniors graduating in the Class of 2019.
Graduation Advisor Dolly McCall organized the ceremony, while junior marshals assisted graduates, faculty, and honored guests into and out of the auditorium. Band Director Jim Leatherwood and Chorus Director Charles Burchill led their ensembles prior to Commencement, and the band played both the processional 'Pomp and Circumstance,' and the recessional from Robert W. Smith's First Symphony.
