16.01.10. Le bal @ Musee d'Orsay
Day 31, Project 365.
My small Canon point and shoot was nicked sometime today. I only realised when I got to Musee d'Orsay. So my memories of the museum was a little tainted by that. That and a slight disappointment that there weren't more of Degas' paintings of ballet dancers on show.
Still, I had a reasonable time. I 'discovered' pointilism. Beautiful dot paintings in a myriad of colours, mostly by Paul Signac and Henri Edmund-Cross here at Musee d'Orsay.
But my favourite is James Tissot's Le Bal, which I first saw in Melbourne, when the National Gallery put on an Impressionist exhibition a few years ago. In Melbourne, I was told off for being too close to the artwork (I was trying to see the brushwork in that ruffled train). In Paris, no-one yelled when I peered at it.
As an aside, I nearly squealed when I first spotted it in a corner, at the back of the museum.
Some may say this is cheating, taking a picture of a picture for Project 365.
I don't neccesarily agree with this.
On days I devote to art museums, it fills my whole being, not to mention I learn something about light and composition in each work I photograph.
I love the colour, the muted drama, and that ruffled train in this.
