Alan wake is a third-person shooter developed by Remedy Entertainment and published by Microsoft Game Studios.
Aside from looking really nice with it's lush environments; Alan Wake is a game that defines what superb, spooky story-telling should be all about.
Describing the Story in Five Sentences:
1. You take on the role of a present-day, best-selling novelist named Alan Wake(to whom you find out has been on a two year writer's block) who with his wife, Alice escapes to remote cabin located on an Island, in a small rural town called Bright Falls.
2. Alice as well the entire island mysteriously disappears, and now you have to find out where the hell Alice went by venturing into the dark recesses of the town armed with a flashlight and a small arsenal of weapons.
3. During your venture, Alan is informed that the island in which he seeks had in fact sunk due to an earthquake in the 70s; this completely throwing Alan off course from finding his missing wife.
4. Soon, the people (and the wildlife) within the town become possessed by a mysterious force that appears as a shadowy matter, turning the good inhabitants of Bright Falls into what Alan refers to as THE TAKEN (murderous, demonic-like entities with creepy, altered voices(here's an example of those voices).
5. So now, you pretty much have fight through THE TAKEN as the mysteries of the story unfold.
I finished this game two years ago on the 360, but I'm playing it again (this time on the PC) because it was on sale on the Steam client earlier this week. It was no surprise that the game looks even more stunning on the PC.
As a game announced in 2005, this was a title that I had really looked forward to playing. Five years in the making... No problem at all. I'm glad they took the time with it because in the end, what resulted from the wait was a Horror-game that was done very well. Remedy had taken simple game play and fused it with great story-telling.
