via Instagram Dutch Harbor, AK. A devastatingly beautiful landscape. Bleak yet full of life. The oceans abound with protein that gets harvested and taken all over the world. In 2013 more than 752,000,000, yes 752million, pounds of fish were offloaded and shipped out. Opinions on the fishing industry aside, that is an incredible human feat to harvest, process, and distribute that amount of anything, in a year. This place is fascinating. Two islands along this chain were taken by the Japanese during world war 2, the U.S. had thousands of troops out here and battlements, this harbor was of strategic significance. Artifacts date inhabitants of the islands back 8000 years! Needless to say, I've kept myself entertained.
