The last of the Mohicans...

This was the last caterpillar left munching while the other two had burried themselves for pupation. This one has now also disappeared after furiously munching its way through lots of leaves.

 

Before they pupate they go a rather dark colour and look a bit sick. Though I hope they are now all OK in the compost I gave them.

 

Apparently one should remove the pupae after about 10 days and store them in a cold place (the fridge or the shed). They then need to be taken out in May when the moths will hopefully emerge.

 

Below you can see a further photo where it is apparent how large the caterpillar got before pupation.
