Art Bus front

Brief: create a mock entry for the Arriva Art Bus competition (design something that would completely transform a double decker bus into a piece of art, both inside and out).

 

I decided to take the idea literally and made it an Art Bus: a bus covered in works of art. I wanted it to have both well-known and obscure artists and paintings, and be a kind of mobile art gallery, travelling around the country and introduce the general public - non-art gallery goers - to art. The inside continued the theme of an art gallery and could be used as an exhibition space for local artists.

 

The design for the bus was created in Photoshop CS5 using a template supplied by Arriva. The entire bus was given a red-orange base layer with a wooden wainscoting to represent a art gallery's interior. Each window of the bus was covered with a framed painting. Finally, small details were added such as shadows and tones.

 

The painting on the front of the bus is Birth of Venus by Sandro Botticelli.
