Twilight USACE Shallow Draft Dredge MURDEN at Barnegat Lighthouse State Park of New Jersey (Longbeach Island)

Winter is great time to visit this site, for one can usually see some truly beautiful birds that are found along the coast during only this time of year. Although some of the shorebirds and a few others can be seen in the warmer months, often times displaying different colors, it is discovering the cold weather visitors that draws us here, in spite of the chilly and typically windy conditions. This particular day was the first of three trips between the end of 2014 and the start of 2015.

The Barnegat Lighthouse State Park is truly a splendid landscape, famous mostly for its historic lighthouse (over 100 years old) of architecturally clean lines that accentuate its presence, but also the well-designed structure of the long jetty consisting of huge rocks and boulders sandwiched between the nice sandy beach and the ocean, and finally, the wonderful array of fascinating birds throughout the seasons. All of this is punctuated by the breathtaking sunsets and the accompanying “Magic Hour” through twilight. As nature enthusiasts and photographers, it doesn’t get much better than this . . .
