Sibirischer Uhu - Siberian eagle owl
Der Sibirische Uhu ist im östlichen Rußland
sowie in Sibirien verbreitet. Sie ist die weltweit größte Eulenart.
Die Männchen erreichen eine Größe von ca. 68 cm, ein Gewicht von bis zu 2500 Gramm bei einer Flügelspannweite von 160 cm.
The Siberian eagle owl is found in eastern Russia and Siberia. It is the largest owl species in the world.
I have not been to a Zoo for over 50 years and if totally honest not a great fan. On this occasion I was in the area and I had read a lot about Marwell Zoo and the work they have done with endangered species and so we had a day to have a look. I have to say we were both totally surprised and impressed. The animals were in excellent condition and the enclosures were clean and big. The bird avery was great along with the reptile area. I would go again and support them.
Zoo Animals
There always seems to be a stigma between Zoo Animals and Creatures in the Wild, from a photographic point but as I cannot get about as well as I could. So if you can get the right image, that’s good, and makes me well satisfied of what I can achieve. Hope you like this series. I know I enjoyed the experience. Stay safe. Patrick

Le ZooParc de Beauval, plus couramment appelé le zoo de Beauval ou, plus simplement, Beauval, est un parc zoologique français situé à Saint-Aignan dans le département de Loir-et-Cher, en région Centre-Val de Loire. Il présente environ 35 000 animauxNote 1 sur 44 hectares. Créé en 1980 par Françoise Delord, il est actuellement dirigé par son fils, Rodolphe Delord, et géré par sa famille, qui possède la majeure partie du capital.
Beauval fut souvent le premier parc zoologique à présenter certains animaux en France, ce qui a contribué à sa notoriété et à son développement. Il a notamment été le premier à présenter des fauves leuciques, tigres blancs et lions blancs, dans les années 1990. Aujourd'hui encore, plusieurs des espèces présentées sont rares en France, telles l'okapi, le lamantin et le rhinocéros indien, voire uniques en France, comme le panda géant, le koala, le dendrolague de Goodfellow et le diable de Tasmanie. En 2017, le ZooParc de Beauval devient le premier parc français, et le quatrième européen, à réussir la reproduction du panda géant.
Quatre serres présentent oiseaux, grands singes, paresseux, reptiles, lamantins et animaux australasiens, tandis que trois plaines permettent de présenter des herbivores de la savane africaine (girafes, rhinocéros blancs, gnous, antilopes), des éléphants d'Afrique et des herbivores asiatiques (rhinocéros indiens, tapirs de Malaisie, antilopes, etc.). Les autres installations notables du parc sont la zone chinoise intitulée Sur les hauteurs de Chine, une zone africaine avec La Réserve des Hippopotames et La Terre des lions, ainsi que les deux espaces consacrés aux spectacles : le bassin des otaries présentant L'Odyssée des lions de mer et le théâtre en plein air du spectacle d'oiseaux en vol libre intitulé Les Maîtres des airs. A trip to the zoo can be a great photographic experience. But sometimes the photo opportunities are unexpected or elusive.
Marwell Zoo, situated near Winchester, in Hampshire, looks after over 170 exotic and endangered species in 140 acres of parkland, plus toy train, cafe, talks and events.
Although I do currently have an annual pass to the Zoo, it's closed today because of lockdown due to Covid restrictions. Thus my photos are taken from my archive. My favourite animals are the penguins: rather ungainly on land but elegant in the water.

Going back over some old photos as not had any time to do much new stuff. Found these ones from our trip to London Zoo early in the summer.
Die Gruppe Krauskopfpelikane bewohnt den Wasservogelteich im Themenbereich Asien. Im Jahre 2004 wurde eine Winterunterkunft errichtet, so dass die Tiere eine Rückzugsmöglichkeit haben, wenn draußen kalte Temperaturen herrschen. Die Jahre zuvor mussten die kräftigen Vögel mittels Ruderboot immer vor Winterbeginn eingefangen und in eine Winterunterkunft gebracht werden, was sowohl für die beteiligten Tierpfleger, als auch für Pelikane ziemlich stressig war. Nachdem sie im Winter 2004/2005 erstmalig nicht gefangen werden mussten, kam es im darauffolgenden Frühjahr erstmals zur Eiablage, allerdings waren alle Eier unbefruchtet. Zwei Jahre später schlüpfte dann das allererste Jungtier in der Geschichte des Zoo Leipzig.

Meerkats work together in numbers. A few will typically serve as lookouts, like this lonely fellow, watching the skies for birds of prey, such as hawks and eagles, that can snatch them from the ground.
A sharp, shrill call is the signal for all to take cover. While a few individuals guard the group, the rest busy themselves foraging for the foods that make up their varied diet.
Meerkats will eat insects, lizards, birds, and fruit. When hunting small game, they work together and communicate with purring sounds. Meerkats are good hunters and are sometimes tamed for use as rodent-catchers.

Flamingo's are a type of wading bird in the family Phoenicopteridae.
A group of flamingo's is called a
" Flamboyance "
Flamingo's are omnivores and filter-feed on brine shrimp, and blue-green algae, as well as insect larvae small insects and mollusks and crustaceans.
The pink or reddish colour of flamingo's comes from carotenoid in their diet, of animal and plant plankton.
Flamingo's prefer to drink freshwater, but they are equipped with glands under their eyes
that remove extra salt from their bodies,so this organ allows them to also drink saltwater.

Koritrappe
Die Riesentrappe (Koritrappe) ist eine große Vogelart, die im östlichen und südlichen Afrika vorkommt. Die Riesentrappe erreicht eine Höhe von rund 1,3 Meter und ein Gewicht, je nach Geschlecht, von 6–19 kg. Sie ist somit einer der schwersten flugfähigen Vögel.
