One from the summer, when getting up at 3am seemed easy... right now I could sleep round the clock... think I need to hibernate.

'Up' and 'down' mean very little to nuthatches as they scurry around the tree trunks as easily as if they were standing.
Not really sure what season it is, it's definately not summer, and questions have to be asked if it's even spring!
I arrived here last night and it was pouring, grey, cold and miserable (see the shot in the comments), but something made me want to hang around. Amazingly the rain stopped and the front moved quickly to leave a clearing behind it, with a resulting 30/40minute window to make some shots.

Taken just as the snow storm was clearing.
Some interesting foot prints... I don't know who, or what they belong to... Could be a sheep, could be a deer... either way, they seem to abruptly stop!
Perhaps... the animal walked towards the tree, and was mysteriously abducted by aliens! Or, maybe there's a very clever sheep walking forwards... then reveresing in stealth mode, following in the exact footprints from whence it came!! Or, of course it could be that the tree itself walked up to the fence, jumped over and settled down to take in the view!!!
Other theories welcome. You need to view large to see what I mean... :-)

Had this one on file for a while, and never initially liked due to the sun flare, however now I've caught a bug for that kinda thing, I decided to reprocess. Was just about to upload when I saw a new texture from jessica drossin and decided to have a play. Hard to be objective with these shots as its my own kids, but I quite liked the dreamy feel of this one... we like it, hope you do too. :-)
Please click here to see larger on black, really does it better justice.

Sunrise is getting really early now - a 4am start, to climb up these hills for sun up. I was treated to some beautiful misty conditions, which bathed the landscape in a warming glow, despite the temp of 1ºC!

Dusted off my camera and headed down to the coast for the first time this year.
I think I got into a bit of a rut last year… I would watch the weather/sea predictions, and only go out when the conditions seemed "perfect" – this is all fine of course, however it seriously minimises the amount of times you get out… the forecasts aren't always right… and you only get experience shooting in one particular type of conditions.
This year I've decided to head out when I have to opportunity to, regardless of the conditions – I believe it will get me out of my comfort zone, and hopefully lead to better things. To that end, on Sunday, I left the house in the rain and arrived at the coast to find strong winds and a particularly feisty sea – with the waves crashing around me, and some pretty strong backwash I decided to try this shot. A different, but enjoyable experience.
I hope 2013 is off to a good start for you!

In the heart of the cosmos, where stars dance their eternal ballet, an evil presence lurked. It was none other than MEOWTRON, a cat of nefarious intent and a mustache to match his villainy. With a sly grin and a flick of his tail, he switches on the zero gravity tripping up our hero.
Undeterred, Flit quickly assesses the situation. Using her astrophysical expertise, she deftly navigates the weightless expanse, leveraging wires and floating debris as stepping stones to gain traction, and possibly an advantage.
Will Flit's cunning be enough to thwart MEOWTRONs' schemes, or would the cat's claws prove too sharp?

1 year ago today I uploaded my first photos to Flickr... 7 shots from a Design & Art Directors course I did on the narrative in Photography... they got about 3 views, and it wasn't really a blinding debut.
Since then I've worked hard at trying to get the type of shots I've always really wanted to do... It's been a rewarding year, and I think I'm getting there (or was up until Camera-gate!). My progress has only been possible with the help, advice and inspiration of people I work with and many of the talented contacts I've met on here... I was going to name individuals, but I'll leave that for a more fitting tribute... I'm sure you know who you are anyway!
So... this shot is to say thanks... its another, jetty, another early sunrise and another selfie... there's something about watching daybreak, that I could never tire of...
As a little review of what I've done in the year with your help, I've uploaded a video to you tube, please have a look and let me know what you think. 1 year on Flickr

Rarer than hens teeth, probably even rarer than rocking horse poo... an upload from me that's not an archiver. Borrowed a camera for the weekend, our freak winter weather is too good to miss. Been out in the snow all day, admittedly a huge part of that was sledging, but... :-)
67 second exposure from a single RAW file... no HDR. Taken about 40mins after sun down... Very cold, the car temp gage was reading -9 before I climbed up the hill. Have photographed this spot before but never at night, and never whilst up to my knees in snow.
First new material since October... it felt good to be out shooting again. This one's calling out to be viewed large.

A brief snap of winter on Saturday morning. Not a huge amount of snow, but enough to transform the landscape for a few hours.

I had already packed up and was on my way home, when I saw the morning sun hitting the trees on the right hand side... so I stopped to take in one of the iconic views over Loch Ard towards Ben Lomond (974 metres (3,200 ft)).
I realise this is a much photographed view, and brings nothing new to the table, however hopefully it will add some sunshine into an otherwise grey day.
oh yeah... its an archiver... hope you enjoy.

Sometimes you just need to stand back and watch what the world is throwing at you...
This was taken as I was on my way home from a very enjoyable and productive early morning's photography at the beginning of December... I thought I was done, but as the sun came up over the trees, it caught the freezing fog, and cast a warm glow across the landscape...
I've been working on giving my website a long overdue face lift... it's almost done and I've got it up and running, I still have a few little tweaks to make, but it's more or less complete www.zerogravity.me.uk
Dont panic, its not a current shot :-) It has got colder, but not that cold!
The change in season's has made me look back on some snow shots, and here's one I had forgotten about. A bitterly cold and foggy morning in the Clyde Valley, rural Scotland.

A frosty sunrise through the mist behind my favourite copse of trees. Taken on Saturday morning in the Clyde Valley.
Pretty epic conditions, the mist seemed to be continually moving, and the shadows constantly changing against the light. This one was taken lying down in the field!

Took my annual pilgrimage to this little loch a couple of weeks ago, only to find the jetty gone, or at least submerged in water (It's been wet, the loch was pretty high. also it was dark).
I came away empty handed :( This one's from a previous trip.

Sunrise, snow and fog... :-)
I often have a lengthy gap between shooting and uploading my outdoor stuff... this is down to the fact I'm usually always accompanied by my border collie. She has an uncanny knack of sneaking into shot, and I have to retouch her out! On this occasion I've decided to leave as is, although I do also have the shot without.
Our snow's nearly all gone again... I'm secretly hoping for more!
