Anything goes: High Key

Have an awesome weekend everyone. Be safe!

My newest hobby is Zentangle, the art of creative doodling.

It is one of my favorite hobbies, only second to my first love, photography. Usually, I use black ink pens to doodle patterns on white paper, but this evening I did just the opposite. I used three white gelly roll pens and one white graphite pencil to create this zentangle creation.

My first attempt at a 'Zentangle', this one, a letter for 'Make yourself a monogram'.

I followed a YouTube tutorial by Hu Art Drawing, a few changes due to my poor drawing skills, and the addition of an extra bit of snake as I wanted its head in the picture. I realise now that technically this isn't a Zentangle, but I think comes under Zentangle inspired art.

123 pictures in 2023 (66) make yourself a monogram

Hollibaugh is an official Zentangle pattern, and it's the overlaid grid part of this design, and is used as a reticular for the other tangles. The other designs are partly my own but partly inspired by other tangles, creators include Hu art drawings, Tonya Mendez and Jenna Blake.

Tangling art is explained at Zentangle

I have to learn to slow down and take more care when I draw, I am always in such a hurry to see it finished and that's why I make mistakes! Tangling is very much about relaxing and enjoying the slow process of creating the tangle, I am now able with small 15 minute tangles to get immersed the process but found it difficult with this piece. I also have to remember that there are No mistakes with Zentangles.

"Zentangles" are a combination of meditation and art, invented by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas. Although similar to doodling, zentangles represent mindful creation of patterns, as opposed to the mindlessness of doodling. The pen is a Micron 0.1 - perfect for an art form that is supposed to be no more than 3.5 inches wide.

July Challenge 'Circles'

4" x6.25" Lama Li Thick Journal. It's taken me a little doing to get the lay of this paper. The manager of the art store said it had 'character'. He's correct--it dictates what it wants to do. The grain isn't consistent throughout, but once you learn how to change the pressure of the pen, you can get some beautiful results.

I have been traveling a bit and didn't take my art supplies with me so when I got home and got settled, I had to start drawing. I saw a similar type picture on Facebook and decided to do it. It's completely free-form. I picked it up and drew whatever came into my brain. As you can see, my brain is pretty cluttered.

Some fun I hatched for Sliders Sunday. ;o))

I really appreciate your comments and faves. I'm not a hoarder of contacts, but enjoy real-life, honest people. You are much more likely to get my comments and faves in return if you fit the latter description. Just sayin. :oD

8.5" x 11". Most of the patterns here came from Sandy Bartholomew's 'Totally Tangled' book.

Zentangle, my first go. I sat and doodled from my head, and a couple of hours later got this :D I actually found it a fantastic way to deal with pain, which was very bad that day.

My FB friends Techla and Darcy got me into this, after me seeing lots of lampworkers doing them and asking "okay what the hell is this zentangling?". I think I could get addicted. I was a doodler anyway and this gives me an excuse :D

Oh I am loving doodling, zendoodling and zentangling. Some by pen and some by ps.
