Zen into infinity

At the Alila Manggis resort on Bali. It was drizzling at the time, so the yoga class was held in the covered passageway between two blocks, instead of on the lawn.

“Don’t think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it’s good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art.” - Andy Warhol

We love Houston. Money and candy bars grow on trees. (Take your pick, have both!). Beautiful yoga instructors roam the streets. Aah, wonderful!

This photograph falls into the right place, right time category. No way to plan for a photo like this. While I was taking photos of the "We Heart Houston Sculpture", this beautiful young lady did a spectacular pose (similar to the one above) for her boy friend in front of the sign. I was impressed and I asked the yoga instructor if she would do a similar pose for one of my photos. As you can see she consented in an impressive manner. My only regret is that I didn't execute the shot better. But that the way it goes with impromptu portraits. You are usually stuck with what ever equipment you have out ready to go (I had brought one lens, one camera, no flash, and everything else was back in my car with no time to get it). The light is what it is and you choice of background limited. So you do the best you can with what the opportunity presents. She was very gracious in agreeing to pose and show her amazing flexibility.

What really surprised me was when she and her boyfriend told me she was limited due to an injury from which she was healing. Man, if that is limited, wonder how she can contort herself if she is well. They we very nice and I appreciate her posing.

This 28 foot tall sign, known as the "We Love Houston" sign or "We Heart Houston" sign stands along the Katy Freeway as one approaches downtown. A driver paying attention to the usually hectic Katy freeway (I-10 W) traffic often misses the sign. (The sign could even be more distracting with a yoga teacher posing in front!) I drove by it several times before I saw it. On this stretch one is required his eyes on the road if he is driving so passengers are more likely to see the colorful sculpture. The sign was designed and made by by Houston sculptor David Adickes. He owns this sculpture and the land it sits on David Adickes, a native of Huntsville Texas, is famous for larger than life public art. He created the towering 76 foot tall Sam Houston Sculpture near Huntsville Texas, the similarly towering sculpture of Stephen F. Austin south of Houston, the Virtuoso at Houston-s Lyric Center, as well as sculptures of the Beatles, Charlie Chaplin and heads of the Presidents of the United States. In fact, the 36-foot tall Beatles sculptures, depicting the band during their Sergeant Pepper era, were originally installed at this location, but Adickes decided they were too tall for the spot. He decided on the "We Heart Houston" sign instead. It was installed on July 3, 2013. Landscaping is to follow but as of the date of this photo the ground has been leveled but no landscaping installed yet. If you want to go there the sign is at Location: 1816 Thompson Street, Houston, TX 77007.

A Day in Miami. I was fortunate to meet and photograph a graceful and dedicated yogini Day Christensen. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Day during our interacts and conversation. Her dedication and practice are both very inspirational.

This pose builds strength for more advanced arm balancing. Just slightly lifting buttocks of the floor requires strong core and bandhas (energy locks). It's extremely difficult for people who got with short arms like me. .
