Last year we had a snowy plover visit us here on the western slope of Colorado. Having never photographed one in my area, I visited the local park where it had been seen. Snowy plovers are quite small plovers with white underparts and pale brown upper parts. They also have dark patches on the upper breast behind the eye, and on their white forehead. Legs, bill, and feet are black. Mostly know that they are SO ADORABLE as they make quick runs along the sand in search of foraging or a safe place to rest.
When I photograph shorebirds, I have found the best technique is to observe their behavior and response to my presence. I sat down quietly and waited patiently for it, observing its movement the whole time. To my surprise, it, along with a trio of least sandpipers, seemingly made a beeline towards my direction. Each time they did their intermittent "run for the hills", they would stop and get low in the sand and seem to rest. I just sat there in amazement. At one point, the snowy plover got up, proceeded to initiate its stretching sequence, which including the "plover yoga" move. As to not frighten them, I waited until they moved on.
It was a memorable experience for me ... and I hope that you can appreciate the moment. Nature can be quite healing. Namaste.
This Cuban Brown Anole was right in the middle of the path, doing what appears to be a variation of the plow....
She just stayed there and looked at me, so I reciprocated... : )

Great project for using leftover sock yarn! We have a small yoga-group at my work, and I'm gonna make my co-workers very envious with my funky yoga socks. :-D

Yesterday, I was really down and depressed; tired and cranky; tired and tearful......but my Flickr friends were there to support me and boost my spirits. A few of my Flickr friends suggested I get up and move, get out of the house, work-out! So, Melanie and Katcat - this one's for you!!!
I actually got my body up and going today - I even went to the gym! (yay!) I spent 30 minutes on the treadmill - that may not sound like a lot, but for me, it IS!!
And yes, I feel better!!
I hope I can get out of bed tomorrow! LOL!!

So on Saturday night and then through Sunday we had a decent snowfall - about 18cm in most places and drifts to mid-thigh along some of the fence lines. That line running across the field with the two trees was particularly deep - great fun and exercise.
Our track is still impassable however yesterday with the clear blue skies and the snow lying was just magical.
