A cluster of Madagascar periwinkle flowers (Catharanthus roseus) bursts with contrast—white petals encircling vivid red centers framed by yellow rings. Set against glossy green leaves, the composition highlights the plant’s ornamental charm and medicinal significance. The crisp detail and natural lighting evoke freshness and vitality, making this floral portrait both visually striking and emotionally uplifting.

The giant prickly stick insect (Extatosoma tiaratum), also refferred to as spiny leaf insect, Australian walking stick and Macleay’s spectre, is a large stick insect from Australia (Queensland and New South Wales) and New Guinea. Like almost all 6000 stick insects it has a Phasmid Study Group number or PSG number: PSG 9.
This species of stick insect looks more like a cactus than like a twig. Its body is bulky and covered in small spines. On its legs it has big lobes that are also spiked and look like leaves of a desert plant. Extatosoma tiaratum are often light to mid brown, but occasionally you can find green, beige or dark brown varieties.
The difference between (adult) males and females is enormous.
The females are bulky, thick and 15 cm long. They have lots of spines on their back and large lobes on their legs.
The males are really slender, have little spines and reach a length of 9 to 11 cm. The adult males have long wings and are able to fly, while the females have small wings (about 2,5 cm long).
Like most stick insects this species is docile by nature. It is nocturnal and will generally only move during the night. It has an amazing defense strategy: it will mimic a scorpion when threatened. If they are disturbed, they will curl up their tail to mimic a scorpion.
Extatosoma tiaratum is PSG 9.

The golden-ringed dragonfly (Cordulegaster boltonii) is one of the largest insects in Sweden. I spotted this particular specimen together with my son on a trip to the Mjällådalen nature reserve near Härnösand, Sweden, and luckily for us it had caught a bumblebee and landed pretty much right in front of us on a leaf to eat it.
I initially took some gradually closer photos of it (including this one) using the Canon 100 mm L IS Macro lens and to my surprise, it didn't fly away and just continued devouring the poor bumblebee (so much was already devoured that I am unable to tell the exact species).
When I considered myself "done" and having gotten the photos I wanted, Daniel however convinced me to switch to the Canon MP-E65mm lens and try for some real closeups. Since it would require me to be minimum 10.1 cm / 4" away from the dragon, I initially refused as I considered it impossible, but he insisted and it turned out he was correct - it kept eating and I got some real closeups (to be posted later on).
This species is the only one in Sweden belonging to the family Cordulegastridae and has a bit of a different face compared to the other species. Also, while the adult only flies for one summer, it has already spent four or five years as a larvae in the water before emerging.

Nothing special. Was more or less testing how well the BlackBerry phone's video recorder works. Not too bad but it took forever to upload from my phone something only 29 seconds long! Not sure if it's normal. Was going to record one of the kits playing with a new toy but something spooked them and they quickly left.
Mom's in the background washing. The fourth kit was next to me trying to see what I was doing.

This link below made me smile - apart from the fact that it is awfully synthesized, it is so jolly!
