My first sighting of a deer at the Reserve. Just managed to switch camera on, no time to check settings, just aim and fire off 3 shots as it bolted into the bushes.
Ran accross on a dirt road in Dooly County. No idea the age of this truck. Photo was shot from the road about 100 yds away. It appeared to have been put away years ago. (Update) 1941-1947 Studebaker M-Series

The head of the Driffield Canal is around 200 yds to the left near the centre of Driffield and this building would have been part of the warehouses around the headwaters. The water here is remarkably clear.

The Old Smithy is located in Shop Lane adjacent to Botton Village in Danby Dale in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park.
I assume this originally was a Blacksmiths Shop
50 yds away (in view) is the old Wesleyan Chapel which is of similar size and both were converted to houses in 1993. This is quite a dark corner especially in summer with leaves on the trees.
The Old Smithy is described now as having a hall, kitchen, living room, shower room, and mezzanine sleeping area/camping room. It comes with off-road parking and seating areas adjoining Danby beck.
Taken with my phone because paddling out with my D800 seemed a bit risky. Not a bad photo though....for a cell phone.
This gal allowed me to get within 50 yds or so of her so I thanked her for not making me chase her through the swamp.

7 Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. 8 All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me WILL BE SAVED. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to STEAL and KILL and DESTROY; I have come that they may have LIFE, and have it to the FULL. (John 10:7-10)

Jacarandas are small trees, in my experience, although the Wikipedia says they can grow up to 20 yds/meters tall. When they bloom, there are lots of blue flowers -- most other kinds of trees don't have that color. This one was growing in a parking lot in San Diego County, California, USA.
Isn't God a great artist? Thanks for looking.
On my sea check at Sandwich, three of these guys turned up from off the sea. They landing some distance away but were disturbed by walkers . I was in my car and one flew past and sat on a fence post some 20 yds infront of me. Not daring to try and get closer ,I grabbed some shots. What a bird.
The head of the Driffield Canal is around 100 yds to the left near the centre of Driffield. The white hoist on the right is one of the original hoists for loading the canal boats The water here is remarkably clear and flows into the canal from a stream simply titled "The Beck"

Kingfishers are very hard to get close to in Kalifornia. I see these little guy's fairly often, but they refuse to allow me to get close enough to get a decent photo. I think they may believe I'm trying to steal their soul or something? :^ P
I must have just wore this guy down, because he kept flying back and forth between two branches about 100 yds apart, for half an hour or so, before I was able to get this shot. ( I did get the exercise I needed that day however.) Which of course is by no means perfect. But it just maybe the closest thing to perfect this old man can manage, because he was waring me down way more than himself. :^ P
If you can picture what an old man of nearly 80 years old might look like in the brush, carrying a 10 lb. giant lens, and a 3 lb. camera with two torn rotator cuffs that I can barely host it to my eye and then hold it steady enough to squeeze off a shot while trembling so bad the whole thing isn't just a blur. Wearing camouflage of course, because we have to show the birds we are willing to through lots of money into our efforts to photograph them, while they sit in the trees laughing at us. Birds can see 10 times better than people, we aren't fooling them. But we are impressing the heck out of the fashion police. : ^ )
The best way of course get a great shot of these little guy's is to purchase a small camouflage blind (tent) and set it up where we know he's going to be an hour or so before the sun comes up. However, where I go to take photos usually you aren't allowed to be there before the sun comes up and they will not allow you to put up a blind. So my friends this is my best effort to date, but I will keep trying to get the perfect shot, I hope you like it?

1. Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2. BY THIS GOSPEL YOU ARE SAVED, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
3. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4. that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5. and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. 6. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8. and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.
9. For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them--yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. 11. Whether, then, it was I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed. (1 Corinthians 15:1-11)
7. Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. 8. All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9. Eastern Tiger Swallowtail at Lake Lotus Park. This fellow wanted to have his picture taken. Followed me for 100 yds and kept landing in front or to side of me.
This was back in early Oct when we were visiting a friend in western MD. He lives a few hundred yds from where we have some property at Minnestoska (the old camp my sister & I use to attend when we were young).
oh maybe 7-10000 canada geese feeding off the old corn grain field. i got about 300 yds away when they took off. wrong lens.
This small bird was about 100 yds away and takes up a small part of the frame, shot with high ISO and Shutter Speed. Amazing !

This is the old meandering arm of the river The Lys ("De Leie" in Dutch) in Astene (Deinze - Belgium). We walked along it after visiting an exhibition of paintings by Emile Claus (1849-1924) in the museum Mudel in Deinze. Claus lived in Astene for most of his life, very close to where I took this photo, and the river was one of his subjects. Emile Claus painted cows crossing the Leie, farmers at work, an old gardener, farm houses, ordinary people in the village. This made his work exceptional, especially the size of some of his paintings. Most remarkable was 'The Beetroot Harvest', measuring a staggering 3.30 by 4.80 metres! That's 3.6 yds 2ft by 5 yds. Nobody had ever painted farmers in those dimensions before - noblemen, yes - not ordinary people at work.
I liked the exhibition very much. It runs till the end of January 2025. More info here:
When you click on 'Catalogue raisonée' you'll see more of his paintings.
And a small version of 'The Beetroot Harvest' with more information can be found on Wikipedia - only in Dutch, I'm afraid.

This is part of a long running theme of projects: Generation Spent, tracking the grey pound as it moves through the economy.
I started shooting these dead golf courses before the pandemic, an aging membership, daft rules, long playing time and interest from housing developers seemed to be killing off a lot of courses.
And then covid happened and the rules of distancing and outside exercise appeared to work in their favour and give them a bit of a safety net. Now, it looks like the decline is picking up where it left off.
With the fog amplifying sound I would bet if there were any with in 10 miles you could hear the fog horns of the lake ships off in the distance. late fall early winter anticipate just about any kind of weather . Middle of next week they say we are going to get our first major winter storm. We will wait and see ! This time of year that could all change by tomorrow.
Visited a local park searching the woodland for fungi. Found several within 100 yds of the car park. These were generally growing in clusters but a few in ones, twos or slightly more. This is 21 images focus bracketed in camera then focus stacked in Helicon Focus Pro.
Managed to creep within 50 yds of this little beauty, stood around with the camera on a tripod for over 2 hours waiting for it to move.
I was hoping it would lift it's ears, it never did though before I had to retreat due to the rain. Ah, next time perhaps!

Remains of part of a Mulberry harbour unit, used fro D-Day landings in WW2..
Bognor Regis, West Sussex.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mulberry_harbour
This is a 'beetle ' unit. Beetles were pontoons that supported the Whale piers. They were moored in position using wires attached to "Kite" anchors which were also designed by Allan Beckett. These anchors had such high holding power that very few could be recovered at the end of the War.
