Yarn art at Dayboro, north west of Brisbane. The whole township is surrounded and covered by all manner of yard, crochet etc in an unending artwork of different shapes and colours. It's not just about yarn but of friendship, education, connection and advocacy. Each work has a small placard attached telling its story and underlying theme. This amazing work across the top of a rubbish bin has lots going on but visually, the ants are heading for the pizza on the other side.
The creations are hosted by the local Queensland Country Women's Association.
Yesterday we visited the town of Dayboro in the Samford Valley north west of Brisbane. As noted in the shot yesterday, they have their annual winter craft show on throughout the town and this year it's about yarn (and perhaps some yarns, even stories) with all manner of sewn and knitted artwork. This shot is for Window Wednesday but you will also note two handcrafted yarn kangaroos sitting in the garden. HWW

I learned tapestry crochet in Morocco sitting at the feet of Ayesha, a Berber lady, as she worked. As I was traveling at the time I was impressed by the portable nature of the art. You can do it just about anywhere, sometimes even while walking.
I made this bag to carry my flutes, yarns, hooks & drawing materials and dedicated it to her.
As it has been hanging on a hook in my studio or the last 30 years it is looking a little faded, a bit worn. But I look at it and am taken back to Cap Rhir, south of Essouia, on the Moroccan Atlantic coast, and see Ayesha again.

That special time of the year is coming and it’s time for the gals, ghouls, and goblins to come out and play.
Here is another creature of the night, Amigurumi Girl Reve, wrapped in her favorite blue sweater and stripped socks.
Her eyes are very special. The blue one sees the world as humans do, while the pink is useful when looking into people’s dreams…
This outdoor, adventure-loving character is looking for a friend. She loves to braid her hair with buttons and ribbons and always dresses in her favorite colors: gray, red, and black!
She carries a black and red messenger bag that is fully functional. Even the straps come off!

Here is another creature of the night, simply known as The Count, cozy in his coffin bed, which he carries everywhere. Late at night he turns into a tiny white bat and terrorizes everyone in Halloween Ville.
The Count is hand crocheted and stands at approx. 5 inches. His coffin is hand painted and stands at 6 inches.

Here is a creature of the night, Amigurumi Cactus Cactina, a magical creature uprooted from the Forest of Darkness on the outskirts of Halloween Ville.
Her big, innocent eyes and bright flower will bring a smile to your face, but be wary of her prickly side!
