This is a composite of a Ringed Kingfisher as it's making its dive. Taken at the SouthWild Pantanal Lodge in Brazil. The Ringed is the largest kingfisher we saw, followed in size by the Amazon, Green and Pygmy.

Seasons change so quickly it is hard to keep up. Last weekend I spent a half a day in Heart Lake Conservation Area wandering around. The water was calm, as smooth as glass reflecting all the glorious colours of fall. It would turn out to be the last nice day we would have for a while.
At one point I found myself in the middle of a field of milkweed plants. I disturbed a few of them and suddenly the sky became filled with the little parachute buds; they flittered and danced on the breeze as they made good their escape. I caught a few photos of one milkweed plant that I had not distrurbed. Hope you enjoy them.

This is another quick and dirty edit. I don't really have the time to spend much time editing lately so took about five minute to throw about 6 curve layers on here and a white balance shift. My favorite shot of the day is going to sit dormant for a while until I can figure out how to process it.
I spotted Charlie Widdis, local photographer and only other yahoo to brave the -12f this morning out on the rocks. The breakwater is completely exposed to the wind and damn it was chilly. I was hoping that there would be some seasmoke coming up over the breakwater but low tides combined with biting winds kept the smoke from really rising up in this area. To the right, the bay was filled with billowing smoke but no real interest.
Spent the morning playing with the telephoto to compress the smoke for a little more drama. I only popped the wide angle on for a few shots including this one. I always forget that just because you can't see something on your 2 inch lcd (in this case the seasmoke or lighthouse) doesn't mean that it won't turn out when viewed on a 27 inch monitor.
Interesting tidbit that I have now learned about walking on breakwaters in the winter over the last few days. Make sure you are probing where you step ahead of you. Not sure how many near disastrous steps I almost took into the crevices between the rocks.

Lucky food is served during the 16-day festival season, specifically New Year’s Eve, which is believed to bring good luck for the upcoming year.
The auspicious symbolism of these foods is based on their pronunciations or appearance.
Chinese Dumplings stay for wealth, with a history of more than 1,800 years, dumplings, 饺子, Jiǎozi, are a classic Chinese food & a traditional dish eaten on Chinese New Year's Eve.
Some other traditional food eaten on the Chinese New Year & stay for are;
Fish, 鱼, Yú, — an increase in prosperity
Spring rolls, 春卷, Chūnjuǎn — wealth
Glutinous rice cake, 年糕, Niángāo — a higher income or position
Sweet rice balls 汤圆, Tāngyuán — family closeness
Longevity noodles, 长寿面, Chángshòu Miàn — happiness & longevity
Good fortune fruits — fullness & wealth, they are selected as they are particularly round & so called golden in colour,
like oranges, tangerines, lemons or grapefruits etc.
Luckiest things for Roosters;
Numbers - 5, 7 & 8
Days - the 4th & 26th days of a Chinese lunar month
Colours - gold, brown & yellow
Flowers - gladiola, cockscomb
Directions - south, south-east
Months - the 2nd, 5th & 11th Chinese lunar months
Roosters should avoid;
Colours - Red
Numbers - 1, 3 & 9
Directions - East
Months - the 3rd, 9th & 12th Chinese lunar months

Germany, Hamburg, Harbour, HHLA Container Terminal Burchard-Wharf, picture taken from a ferry at nightfall.
The “Blue Port 2015” event is a light happening at the harbour since 2008 by “Light Artist Michael Batz”. The whole harbour area dipped every night in blue light for ten days, a worldwide unique light art production. The event will end with the “Hamburg Cruise Days”, seven cruise liner, including the Queen Mary II, are expected on the weekend from the 11.-13. September, which will end with a giant firework during a pared of all cruise liners on Saturday night & a departure parade on Sunday afternoon.

Even though I had seen photographs of Sandstone Falls, a 1500 ft. river wide waterfall on the New River, I never really realized the volume, size or beauty of this magnificent natural wonder. Myself and longtime friends Jason Haley, Bryan Janosick drove down to meet up with our good friend and West Virginia waterfall photographer Randy Sanger. Our first day there we visited this area after sunrise and the fog had mostly lifted. Since we were only staying 5 miles away we opted to get up well before sunrise and come back the next day. Joined by new friend and fellow waterfall photographer Todd Williams the five of us were given a beautiful display of nature at it's best. The images I will be posting of Sandstone Falls will not give justice to it's sheer size and awe inspiring beauty.
Jason, Bryan and I also met new friend and West Virginia photographer Sarah Hampton who joined us periodically during the trip.
