This was an early morning, but one of my favourites.
We had to get to this spot for sunrise by travelling up the river on motorized rafts. It was really dark and the only thing I could make out was the tops of the mountains as we moved along the river.
Every once in a while, the driver of the raft would shine a flashlight to make sure he knew where he was going and to alert the other rafts of our position on the river.
Magical moments to be sure!!!

This shot ended what was the first of four photoshoots with the cormorant fisherman.
It wasn't a stand out shot the first time I reviewed the picture, but has become one of favourites with the silhouette of the iconic karst mountains in the background. That the cormorant stepped into the light of the lantern is certainly an added bonus.
I'm going to take a break from posting more of the China pictures for a while. There are still some more gems to find, but stuff I've done more recently deserves some focus.

On this occasion, we were invited into their home to get some environmental portraits.
It was fantastic to be able to get setup for some great shots, but it equally amazing at how welcoming these fisherman and their families were.

Back from China after visiting some very photogenic places.
The conditions were not 100% when I think of some pictures that are in my mind; but we were lucky, because 2 hours after this spot began to rain.

Die Bedingungen waren nicht 100 %, wenn ich an einige Bilder denke, die mir im Gedächtnis sind; dennoch hatten wir Glück, denn 2 Stunden nach diesem Spot fing es an zu regnen.

Guilin fisherman Fisherman of Guilin, Li River and Karst mountains during the blue hour of dawn,Guangxi China
Of course, a Li-River visit also includes the classic photo motif known from the 20 yuan bill.
Our "rental fisherman" appeared with his equipment including the obligatory cormorants in the early morning in the dark at the agreed photo location.
Unfortunately we did not have the expected dream morning sky and sunrise, it was rather gray, cloudy and windy. As always, we tried to make the best of it.
Natürlich gehört zu einem Li-River Besuch auch das vom 20 Yuan-Schein bekannte klassische Fotomotiv.
Unser "Mietfischer" tauchte mit seinem Equipment einschliesslich der obligatorischen Kormorane am frühen Morgen noch in der Dunkelheit am vereinbarten Fotostandort auf. Leider hatten wir nicht den erwarteten Traum-Morgenhimmel und -Sonnenaufgang, es war eher grau, stark bewölkt und windig. Wie immer versuchten wir, das beste daraus zu machen.

Finally back in Australia from an incredible 3 weeks in China.
