The Valens aqueduct, Istanbul. Finished AD369, constructed by Roman Emperor Valens when Constantinople was the capital of the eastern empire. The almost 1km long aqueduct continued to be used by the Byzantines and Ottomans.
Not sure if that title will make sense to anyone outside of the UK so I should probably attempt to explain it! I used to see it written (with different names) on walls and desks etc in my school days usually accompanied by a simple sketch of the top half of a face. Don't ask me why(!) but it was 'a thing' when I was growing up :-)
I've since found out more from the endlessly reliable source that is Wikipedia - see below if your interested ;-)

It's amazing to stand under the stars and watch what takes place. The 7/8th Aug 2012 brought a bounty of night shots, firstly the International Space Station crossed the night sky just after dusk, then the Milky Way became more prominent before the Moon started to rise. All the time the sky was full of Perseid meteors. I captured this image 45 minutes after the moon came up. The Milky Way, still visible, was playing host to a wonderful meteor shower. If you look really closely, there are 6 meteors in this 25 second exposure. Oh and as if that wasn't enough, directly behind me the Northern lights were producing their first appearance of the 2012/ 2013 season! What an eventful night sky!
a lot of the time this what it amounts to. we can dress it up with any amount of philosophy or waffle about the social anthropological aspects of modern street photography etc but the point is often simply 'i existed at that moment and here's the proof'

„Wóz przelotowy”

Ogólne ujęcie jednego z dwóch wozów przelotowych, jakie obsługiwały dębieńską baterię koksowniczą. Wóz przelotowy umożliwia obsługę drzwi piecowych po stronie koksowej i przekazanie gorącego koksu na wóz gaśniczy poprzez prowadnicę. Konstrukcję i rolę wozu przelotowego przybliżałem już na przykładzie Koksowni częstochowskiej (www.flickr.com/.../128.../49898113803/in/dateposted/), jednak dębieńskie wozy należały do starszego, nieco innego rozwiązania konstrukcyjnego. Reprezentowały bowiem starszy typ konstrukcyjny spośród wozów starej generacji będąc wozami przelotowymi scalonymi. Oznacza to, że odźwiernik jak i prowadnica były konstrukcyjnie scalone. Zaletą tego rozwiązania była mniejsza masa wozu, jednak poważną wadą zwykle okazywało się uzależnienie dostępności odźwiernika wozu od częstych prac remontowych prowadnicy koksu (znacznie częstszych w stosunku do remontów odźwiernika). Konstrukcja nośna zawiera w tym przypadku ramę nośną wozu wspólną dla odźwiernika i prowadnicy zamiast osobnych ram wózków tocznych dla obu elementów. Dębieńskie wozy przelotowe były wozami przelotowymi prawymi, ponieważ stojąc po stronie koksowej i obserwując wozy przelotowe można było zobaczyć ich prowadnice na prawo od odźwiernika. Było to celowe, aby gorący koks spadający na wóz gaśniczy oddalał się od odźwiernika i tym samym nie oddziaływał na niego termicznie, ponieważ ruch wozu gaśniczego odbywał się w kierunku wieży gaśniczej znajdującej się po prawej stronie. Pozwalało to w pełni ochronić przed oddziaływaniem cieplnym odźwiernik wozu przelotowego pierwszego bloku piecowego znajdującego się po lewej stronie (oczywiście niewidocznego na fotografii), natomiast transport gorącego koksu z tego bloku musiał oddziaływać na wóz przelotowy bloku drugiego. Na fotografii widoczne są także szyny stanowiące tor ruchu wozu przelotowego, podparte na konstrukcji pomostu roboczego. W przyszłości zaprezentuję wozy przelotowe nowej generacji między innymi na przykładzie największej Koksowni w Polsce czyli zdzieszowickiej Koksowni ArcelorMittal Poland ale także pozostałych Zakładów JSW KOKS S.A.

Zing is one of the tags that had been left on an old re-purposed prefab. The house turned workshop was on the bank of the Birmingham to Worcester canal at Selly Oak.
Leaving Birmingham behind is 43384, which is at the tail end of the 06.06 Edinburgh - Plymouth service.
Today this area has been turned into a small park and moorings for narrow boats, the viaduct is revealed and all traces of industry have been erased.

The Other Steve, Steve Wozniak, who co-founded Apple along with Steve Jobs. He is commonly referred to as Woz, and the city of San Jose in California has a street named Woz Way in his honor.
Wozniak continues to be a huge fan of Apple and tries to be the first to buy new Apple products when they come out. I just saw him a couple of hours ago, camping outside an Apple store to wait all night to be the first person to purchase an iPhone 4S, which will be available tomorrow morning (on Friday, October 14, 2011).
Of course, Wozniak could have Apple send one to his house, but this is much more fun. Steve is a gregarious guy who is happy to chat with friends and strangers alike. Passers by who recognize him stop to say hello or shake hands, and Steve is happy to oblige. I took all these shots with his permission.
