Toruń is one of most attractive and historic towns in Poland.

It is famous for being the birthplace ( in 1474 ) of the Polish astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus whose epochal book, De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium is universally regarded as the starting point of modern astronomy.

In 1997 the old medieval quarter of Toruń comprising the Old Town ( 1233 ), the New Town ( 1264 ) and the Teutonic Knights Castle ( mid 13th c. ) was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site for having preserved almost intact its original medieval street layout. Toruń is full of Gothic monuments of architecture, all built of brick, such as the Town Hall, The Leaning Tower, numerous churches and many burgher houses around the central market square and the surrounding streets.

If you ever are in Gdańsk on the coast, I recommend driving down to Toruń - it's only 2hrs away on the motorway - the place has a great artistic atmosphere and a lively cafe scene.

Monks sweeping in front of Bayon temple's Southern side just after sunrise. A nostalgic post, shot in 2010 on a modest Nikon D300, but sadly the digital beginner that i was back then used iso 800 hence it's noisy and soft, but i rather like the timing and composition ... and what a moment :)

Here is also a slightly different composition from just a minute later that i published previously.

Teotihuacan is an ancient Mesoamerican city located in a sub-valley of the Valley of Mexico, which is located in the State of Mexico, 40 kilometers northeast of modern-day Mexico City. Teotihuacan is known today as the site of many of the most architecturally significant Mesoamerican pyramids built in the pre-Columbian Americas, namely Pyramid of the Sun and Pyramid of the Moon. At its zenith, perhaps in the first half of the first millennium (1 CE to 500 CE), Teotihuacan was the largest city in the Americas, with a population estimated at 125,000 or more, making it at least the sixth-largest city in the world during its epoch. The site covers a total surface area of 83 square kilometers and was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.

This photo was taken from the top of the Pyramid of the Moon and shows Plaza of the Pyramid of Moon(foreground), the Avenue of the Dead(the road running throughout) and the Pyramid of the Sun (the largest pyramid there) on the left top corner.

SASSI DI MATERA - The most spectacular City in Italy, the ancient neighbourhoods, known as sassi, are a series of grottoes carved out of limestone, teetering on the edge of a ravine.

Until the 1950s, Matera was a source of shame for Italy, a place of poverty, malaria and high rates of infant mortality, where people lived in caves without electricity, running water or sewage and indesperate conditions were people living in; between 1953 and 1968 about half of the 30,000 population were moved to new homes in the modern part of the city.

The Ironbridge, which crosses the River Severn, was the first cast iron bridge ever built (1779) and the area around it is regarded as the "Birthplace of the Industrial Revolution." Remains of the original Coalbrookdale factory that built the bridge and other important features associated with the start of the industrial revolution can be seen at museums in the UNESCO World-Heritage Ironbridge George area.
