The start of a new project.
There is a process which is inevitable.
This is:
The sorting of the threads.
The cleaning of the sewing machine.
The winding of the bobbins.
The clearing of the work table.
And finally, the thorough washing of the spectacles!
A very rare day alone, which I am setting aside for stitching and gardening. More of the former I hope.
The Suffragettes.
This shows two sample brooches made using textile, image transfers, paint, emamelling powder and wire.
I find it almost impossible to throw away scraps of fabric ( or paper come to that) and so I end up with boxes of the stuff.
These are the offcuts from my Brexit project ( the printed text) which I've free machined on to a background of quilting fleece and then bonded further scraps to the top.
I have no idea where this is going but it feels a better solution than just throwing the individual pieces into a storage box
Part of my new project - a book called "The space between"
As usual, this is getting very complex both in imagery and in structure.
I have decided that some pages will have to be solid, that is without cut through's, as viewing the images from both sides leads to rather too many decisions.
Copious quantities of tea have been required during the designing of these two pages, and I have only shown one view here.
I may change the layout of these pages when I come to assemble the book.
These are only the colors in the first box..I cannot deny that it was very exciting to open all of them!!
The start of a small canvas piece in the Women's Suffrage Series - forced feeding.
I am laying down a base coat here.
The right hand side has been gessoed, painted with acrylic paint and dyes and then overstamped with metallic paints.
On top of this I have bonded a layer of Bondaweb which I have then heated with a heat gun and then sprinkled with chunky embossing powder.
You have to do this a section at a time as you have to sprinkle the powder on a warm surface and then pat it down. When it looks attached to the base, you then zap it with a heat gun which causes the powder to melt.
I have overpainted parts of this with a mixture of metallic paint and lustre powder.

I haven't touched the 16 inch square piece since returning from our family visit to California. I am waiting for it to say something to me. In the meantime, I am doing some some paintings on cradled wood panels. They are each 6 inches square and I am trying to keep it simple by concentrating on primarily black and white, with only minor touches of other colors. The flying pencil in the upper left corner is waiting as well, as I hoping to finish four to six of the wood panels within the next week or so.

Pardon, I'm really NOT a still lifer: for better works see The King of Lights stream.
Chiedo scusa, non sono uno still lifer: se volete vedere molto di meglio guardatevi lo stream del King of Lights.
After changing out a bunch of things, I think he's ready for some background glass. I'm still thinking about the bottom of his left ear though...
Lots going on in the studio at the moment, none of which is any where near completion.
This shows you my desk this morning where I have decorated scraps of paper and fabric with various art mediums. The piece at the top on the right is one I made using the ideas of Anne Bagby. I collaged various lightweight paper on to a tissue backing and then overprinted and painted this.
These papers and fabric are destined to be chopped up and used in a variety of ways.
I've added the squares to a glittery background and then backed it with fleece and I will be stitching over the squares to hold them down
Mozaique was fascinated by the tree last night! The photo sucks, because I grabbed the closest camera which was my cell phone to make sure I wouldn't miss the shot. Real life scrapbooking! LOL
My current project. I'm just adding bits as I go along with minimal planning. Something I can do in front of the TV!
I decided to have a bit of fun and make a wacky handbag. This is the first stage.
I went to a scrummy shop in Much Wenlock ( Ippkin... www.ippkin.co.uk) and bought some Colinette yarn ( www.colinette.com) and a shell button in a wonderful deep yellow colour.
I then used a pair of 20 mm needles to losely knit a rectangle, which I will now weave with strips of knotted fabric and other strange things.
Watch this space!
