The Wolfsburg, now Schloss Wolfsburg, is a medieval lowland and water castle at the edge of the modern city of Wolfsburg which was founded in 1938. The castle was first mentioned in 1302 and was soon developed from a tower house on the Aller River into a fortified water castle. It was expanded into a stately Renaissance castle in the 16th and early 17th centuries. Today, the palace and the park that surrounds it belong to the city of Wolfsburg which uses it to exhibit modern art.
