Deutsche Gesellschaft für Eisenbahngeschichte e.V. (DGEG): The former railway depot in Bochum Dahlhausen was built between 1916 and 1918 and was operational until 1969. In 1977, the DGEG opened one of the largest railway museums in Germany on its premises. Since 2011 the museum has been managed by the Stiftung Eisenbahnmuseum Bochum foundation.
The only preserved German Schienen-Straßen-Omnibus is this one in the Bochum museum.
This is one of the earliest bimodal transportation developments. The vehicle consisted of a conventional bus (although with doors on both sides), which could be self-elevated using hydraulic jacks to be placed on two railway bogies.
In 1951, Deutsche Bunbesbahn ordered two prototypes, which were delivered and tested in 1952. Three more vehicles followed in 1953 and then another 50. Anyway, although 55 buses were built, only 15 sets of bogies were built. The buses were built by Nordwestdeutscher Fahrzeugbau GmbH (NWF) and the bogies by Waggon- und Maschinenbau GmbH Donauwörth (WMD).
