The Blue Jay belongs to the Corvidae family of birds. Corvids which include Crows, Ravens, Magpies, and Jays not only exhibit a very high level of intelligence among all birds (judging by their problem solving abilities and spatial memory), but they also have extensive species specific vocabularies. The Blue Jay is one of the few birds I still hear make noises with which I am not familiar (today in fact). The Blue Jay is Cyanocitta Cristata by genus and species, which means Chattering Crested Blue Bird from the Greek.

Blythe a Day February 2022 - Hearts Galore
Took a short hike today down the otherside of Witty's Lagoon trail, it was quite nice and I got a few water falls out of it. This particular one was captivating, and I ended up spending 20-30 minutes crawling around on the rocks and logs at the bottm. Managed to avoid a soaker as well!

Witty’s Lagoon...Where fresh water meets salt water, these calm, nutrient-rich waters are warm and shallow, valuable as nurseries for animals that tolerate both salt and fresh water, and feed on the microscopic life.
Very dry on the West coast. Had a chance to do a quick hike one sunset recently out on the West coast. Very little water, very dry but still managed to grab a sunstar along the creek.

A lush paradise, that is what I consider Witty's lagoon. Beautiful little falls running down left and right with some spectacular views and birds to add into the mix!

One of my favorite things about the cold and dark months on the Island are the night time low tides. At Witty's lagoon a huge area of tidal flats is exposed with gorgeous rippling sand and tide pools. Fun to explore under the moonlight and stars.
