During 2004-2005, I helped to install WiFi nodes in the North Lawndale neighborhood of Chicago for a wireless community networking project.
We had access to the old Sears Tower at Homan Square, and had permission to install nodes at the top of the building, 13 stories up.
A falcon perched from the top of the tower to go hunting (its nest was nearby), and we'd see it from time to time as we worked. It seemed as wary of us as we were of it, but every once in a while it would make an aggressive pass just to remind you who was boss.
I managed to snap this pic moments before ducking back inside for safety.
They're really mobile phones shaped like fixed line phones.
Most of these phones are bought, then carried to the nearest corner where the owner sets up a payphone business. You can see from one payphone to the other in most of Kampala's streets

The federal Alaska Engineering Commission constructed a building in 1917 in Anchorage for radio communications, known as the Wireless Station, to facilitate building the government's Alaska Railroad. Anchorage had been selected in 1915 to be one of the AEC's major construction camps. The Wireless Station's radio receiving and transmitting system initially had a 500-mile radius, but soon was upgraded to connect with Seattle and the rest of the world. In 1921 the government allowed private citizens access to the system to send messages. The federal government's Washington-Alaska Military Cable and Telegraph System, of which the Wireless Station in Anchorage became a part in 1923 after the railroad was completed, became the Alaska Communication System in 1936. The Anchorage Wireless Station could reach ships at sea. In addition, its cupola served as a beacon for captains to locate the port of Anchorage. In 1950 ACS did its last upgrading of the station's buildings. A few years later it closed the station. The three buildings of the Wireless Station stand as an excellent example of a federal government agency's complex that provided essential communication service for a major construction project then for the residents of Anchorage from 1917 to 1950.
Wirelss monitor for Wirelsss N Network attached as adaptor (antenna) to my home system PC displays my network (HAL) and a neighbor's. Periodically a Dietschler Wireless is also there. These diaplay a KEY graphic which indicate that I am excluded from there newtork - which my PC does not seek to join. My network displays a circling arrows graphic which indicates that I am connected to it.
The B G & N indicate the capacity and speed of the network. My Router supplies a 150 MBPS signal of 96% quality dB; and alternates channels (microfrequencies) on the 2.4GHZ radio frequency according to radio interference. The wireless permits me to operate and connect to the internet w/o a wire connecting to the COMCAST modem - allowing me to move a computer away from a wire connection to another room.
The NETGEAR ROUTER WNR 1000 v2 is suplied by COMCAST at no charge; and it and the PC wirelsss adaptor both have firewalls which bar penetration by SCANS unwanted joinders etc.
Only a computer response by me at the PC permits another computer wirelss connection to the network. COMCAST's "gateway" household internet connection also is firewalled and requires special security to use the COMCAST ISP for the WWW.
Periodically "N" networks wirelss will bounce off each other as they adjust their spacing in neighborhoods & apartments. The range is approxiamtely 300 ft & 150 feet through walls depending on sensitivity of equipment.
A furhter demo of the excellent wireless combo is available at www.airlink.com (cf the AirLink 101 PCI Adaptor) & www.netgear.com (see home Routers WNR 1000 v2). Comcast's cost to you is shipping charge only if you are a COMCAST BroadBand customer.
This connection is my home system only; not a general public service node.
The Lego men control my wireless and make it good.
For what it's worth, D-Link routers are exactly the width of that road. (20 studs wide, 14 deep, and four bricks high (with the feet on it))

I worked today, on my day off which made it really hard to focus on taking any really fun pictures after work. The weather was a beautiful 80 and sunny, maybe a tad warm but I felt staying in was for the better. Given the next week and a half (and maybe more), is going to be mid to upper 80s: including 92 and 90 the next two days respectively.
I got watching the movie, "Old School" and decided that it would be an indoor macro day. (Or rather evening) But as I tried to find a subject to take pictures of, I found my old laptop laying on the ground and proceeded to take it apart. Of the many shots I took of the hard drive and circut boards after I bashed it with a mallet a couple times I realized it wasnt the shot I was looking for. With the heat the way it is I had a glass of water out, but my glass was empty and I had flipped my glass upside down to use the bottum as a resting place for the screws removed from my laptop.
Using my newly aquired wireless trigger I placed the flash at a 90 degree angle to the right of the cup, flashing a couple test shots I found taht I got quite the texture to pop out of the glass. I removed the screws and fired a couple more shots. Eventually I got it perfected to a point that I liked what I had gotten enough to call my night done for pictures. Though a couple pieces of sensor dust are fairly visible here, I am quite pleased with the overall color and exposure.

My set up for wireless 2.4 GHz video down link from a Kite Aerial Photography Rig, With the correct USB to Video out lead, any camera can be used with this system. I've converted the leads to my Pentax Optio W80 and my Canon Ixus 107, both work. However, the W80 has a water proof door in the base of the camera for the battery, SD card and USD plug. This opens downwards and prevents the camera being mounted on the rig at the same time as being plugged in, because of the placement of the mount thread.
I added a wifi thermostat to my home automation gateway!
