Taken in Iceland I thought I would create the perfect get away from Civilization. Two image's from the same place, but we move the cabin into a different spot has the views were much better.

Visitors to Glennallen Alaska will probably be surprised to see a Subway Sandwich shop, carved out of the wilderness, in the very center of town. Since 99.9% of visitors arrive in the summer - I thought I'd show everyone what it looks like on a sub-zero day in the middle of winter. You've got to climb through the snow to get to your favorite sandwich.

Along Forest Road 525 NW of Sedona, we stopped at this remnant of a cattle feeding and sorting area at Taylor Tank.
At the time we stopped, we were unaware this was a popular Pink Jeep Tour stop, but were able to capture some images of the amazing surroundings before being inundated by the tour groups and heading on our way to the Honanki Heritage Site at Loy Butte.
As normal in this region, the formations aren't named with any real consistency, but the view is spectacular, and the clouds were unusually cooperative.
Valle delle messi. Come dicevo un paio di foto indietro, il fondovalle è molto frequentato, in particolare da bipedi umani. La parte alta è più selvaggia e frequentata da quadrupedi; qui abbiamo incontrato caprioli e marmotte.

Land of Maremma, land of ancient cursed malaria, bitter land, still wild. Landscape is not breathtaking, but terribly beautiful.

When I lived in Illinois, I yearned for two things, wilderness and wildlife. It took me until I was 39 years old to finally move to Alaska where I could find both. This is a valley that my wife and I found. We were the only two there, besides our dog. It was a quiet day, very little breeze.
When we are in the wilderness, the troubles of the world seem so far away. We often wish we could live in a place where we were the only people for hundreds of miles. Wilderness takes the pains of sickness and washes them away, takes the mental stress of life and clears the mind.
My wife has license plate covers that say: "Seek the Wilderness," and that is what we do, when we can.
This beautiful scene is in a designated wilderness in Montana. Its beauty was literally mesmerizing. I don't think I could ever take enough photos of it!

Dawn from Colonnade Arch, also known as Five Hole Arch, looking down into Labyrinth Canyon and the Green River, and over Canyonlands National Park and Arches National Park to the La Sal Mountains.
Moab nestles behind a ridge that is north of the La Sal but south of the point where the sun will rise in a few minutes.
This is Labyrinth Canyon Wilderness, established earlier this year--54,000 acres for rafting, hiking, photography and it is also a fine place to just be.
I miss the wilderness of far away places. Thank heavens for memories! Back to the narrative of the India trip with my next post.
Many people go into the wilderness to experience it, and if they experience it in comfort, there's very little in a literary sense for them to write about.
-- Tim Cahill
"The love of wilderness is more than a hunger for what is always beyong reach; it is also an expression of loyalty to the earth, the earth which bore us and sustains us, the only paradise we shall ever know, the only paradise we ever need, if only we had the eyes to see."
Edward Abbey
