It hadn't been the best of days
Overcast., no significant events or appearances., then...
Whilst we were walking back to car flying straight up the path came this guy complete with his evening meal (or perhaps a meal for his chicks?)
He flew straight past., never gave us a look., camera settings were all wrong for a shot like this., but no time for all that., just get the shot whilst you can!

As I drove north along Montana’s Highway 200 in late summer, a small island nestled on the waters of the Cabinet Gorge Reservoir caught my eye. This little gem shone brightly amid the forested slopes and distant mountain peaks. Overhead, a flock of geese swept past in near-perfect formation, their graceful flight adding life to an already magical scene.
The Cabinet Gorge Reservoir winds through the rugged Clark Fork Valley of western Montana. It is a narrow, forest-lined channel that eventually merges with Idaho’s magnificent Lake Pend Oreille to the northwest. To me, this wilderness felt timeless—a landscape framed by the steep, brooding walls of the Cabinet Mountains and an ancient gorge shaped by glaciers long ago.

Two instances of the same bird. I was very lucky to get the shot(s). The distance was probably a dozen meters or so, handheld, (without monopod).

One of the odd things about Anna's Hummingbirds is that their beautiful crests can iridesce in so many different colors. Typically the iridescence in the feathers is red or deep pink, even though the feathers are actually black, sometimes lighter pink, but occasionally gold or apricot, and as you can see here - olive green.

Such majestic birds, we were very fortunate to encounter this African Harrier-Hawk close to the road within the Kruger National Park on safari with Wild Wings Safaris. Awesome.
well, i have such poor equipment to photograph birds, that i was quite happy with these photos. Autofocus is sooo slow in my camera i have to do all manual focus, so i was concentrating like hell to be able to even catch these moments the way i could.
i will invest in something more serious, but didn't decided yet what i will go with.. but i can't wait to have the before...after photos :)
In celebration of the little bit of rain we've had this week, this is a shot from the last evening rain. Parking lot outside Buffalo Wild Wings. The blue is actually Aspen Dental, so you can go get the wings cleaned out of your teeth.
We have become rather addicted to owls recently., but it's easy to see why
Yes of course they are birds., but I always think of them as being in another category... owl category
I looked it up and amazingly there are 255 species of owls worldwide., so if you started at a young enough age it may just be possible to get to see them all!
And ever wondered why you never hear one coming? Well owls are able to fly virtually silently because of a fringe on the leading edge of their primary feathers that helps muffle sound
Very useful if you're hunting for a mouse in the grass!
Hunting or hunted?
This Southern Yellow-billed Hornbill spent as much time checking for threats overhead as it did hunting for termites in the termite mound it was sitting on.

Looking forward to seeing these again, this female was photographed last autumn just outside Butterfly Conservation HQ in Dorset.
With the warm weather, a handful of these butterflies have already been seen. Keep an eye out!
This Bald Eagle looks like he means business and by the bloodstains on his head feathers, I think he is serious about it.
Happy 70 months to Mindy & I! After work, decided to eat at Buffalo Wild Wings since their wings are half off. Gotta love that mango habanero. Pretty crazy, but in about two months, it's going to be six years for us which is really crazy.
