Photographed from the Rotunda Tower at the Overseas Passenger Terminal (northern end), directly above the Quay Restaurant. You have to dodge security guards to ascend the tower. Or offer them coffee!!
And to complete the weird mood, here's IMY2's new cover version of Chris Isaak's 'Wicked Game'. Be sure to check out the glamorous lead singer's new hair colour - a subdued, sultry green. She is the BEST singer on Spotify and Youtubemusic at the moment:

I never dreamed that I'd meet somebody like you
And I never dreamed that I'd lose somebody like you 🎧
Very iconic black sand of Hawaii found here in SL with an instant RL memory of the surreal of such a dark color where it should be almost white and so light and bright. Takes the mind back to the video of Wicked Game by Chris Isaak and how the B&W video was and remains iconic.
Decided to get in my trunks, lay about on the beach and let the warm weather keep me until I could dip in and cool off in the Pacific ocean.

The world was on fire
No one could save me but you.
Strange what desire will make foolish people do
I never dreamed that I'd meet somebody like you
And I never dreamed that I'd lose somebody like you
No, I don't want to fall in love
[This love is only gonna break your heart]
No, I don't want to fall in love
[This love is only gonna break your heart]
With you
With you
What a wicked game you play
To make me feel this way
What a wicked thing to do
To let me dream of you
What a wicked thing to say
You never felt this way
What a wicked thing to do
To make me dream of you
v And I don't wanna fall in love
[This love is only gonna break your heart]
And I don't want to fall in love
[This love is only gonna break your heart]

Here, looking every bit as confrontational as Robert Dudley, is Elizabeth I, in the guise of a lion. The ears and eyes that decorate her gown symbolised her ability to see and hear everything in her kingdom. The fact that she reigned for 45 years while surrounded by plots and conspiracies suggests that it was probably true.

thank you so much, valerie, for helping me decide which edit to use! <3
TMI: woke up to a nosebleed (winter makes the air dry). somehow, i was moved to photograph because of this. creative processes are weird. i looked outside and the world was coated in fog. it was perfect, and thus, this was created

Last month we visited Wicked Game, Lindsey Mendick’s sculptural installation in the Great Hall of Kenilworth Castle. Created from clay and meticulously painted, it's a somewhat macabre take on Elizabeth I’s 19-day visit to the castle in 1575 as guest of Robert Dudley, Earl of Warwick. There are 13 tableaux of characters (some real like the Queen and Dudley) intermingled with others from mythology, almost all represented with animals’ heads. None are treated very kindly, and there are severed hands, arms, legs and heads aplenty, denoting the violence of the times.
These are royal trumpeters who would have announced the Queen’s arrival and entry wherever she went, and are represented as pigs. This one is one of several where whole chunks of body are missing – and one's mind fills in the gap.
Well....this is what seemingly happens when you let Kazemeer close to someone as tempting as Кафка. I mean, I ***adore*** this pretty Russian...and as it seems Mr Kazemeer is absolutely star-struck with Кафка.... ;-)
So, there goes, dear Кафка (who belongs to NeuroDollasticSurgeryWard)

El juego de la seducción
Era un chico listo
Sabía jugar a ese juego
Y siempre ganaba
Dejándose perder...

This is the story of Artemis and Actaeon, Artemis usually being presented as a hunting goddess of the woods, surrounded by her chaste band of nymphs. When Actaeon, a young hunter sees her bathing naked, he is transformed into a deer by the angered goddess and is then devoured by his own hunting dogs, who do not recognise their master. Here he has a fine stag's head and, like most of the other creatures, an Elizabethan ruff. With the huge scale of this project, Lyndsey Mendick had assistants to help – I would imagine one of them must have spent day after day creating ruffs.

In Elizabethan times, educated folk not only knew their bible stories, but were familiar with the Greek myths, and they were both useful material for allegorical messages to those in power. Masques and dancing were also obvious forms of entertainment, particularly if the Queen came to stay for 19 days.
These three represent the story of Philomela and her sister Procne, and is one of Ovid's Metamorphoses. Procne was married to Tereus, king of Thrace, who pretended she was dead in order to take her sister Philomela as his wife. He takes Philomela to the forest where he rapes her, cuts out her tongue and imprisons her. Since she cannot speak, Philomela weaves her message into a tapestry and sends it to Procne. In revenge, the two sisters kill his son and serve him as a dish for Tereus. This is Tereus, I think, holding Philomena and cutting off her tongue. Finally, the gods transform the three into birds: Procne into a nightingale, Philomela into a swallow, and Tereus into a hoopoe.

After the violence and treachery of mythological characters like Zeus, this gentle character looks more trustworthy. He was another of Elizabeth I's suitors, like Robert Dudley (and might be the Duke of Alencon). Behind him is a ferocious lion - Elizabeth I herself.
This figure is probably the most macabre of them all, with hands clutching at its own entrails. I think it's the Queen, portrayed as Persephone, torn between love for her daughter and being taken to Hades as queen of the underworld. Mendick sees similarities with Elizabeth being torn between affection for Robert Dudley and her role as queen, not beholden to a single man. Here the figure is being ripped apart by hands clutching at her and like all the female figures, her face is deathly white from the lead make-up favoured at the court, which may well have caused lead poisoning.
