California Scrub Jay giving it best coy glance. While quite a beautiful bird, I consider the Scrubie to be the school yard bully of the oak woodland. Even the rambunctious Acorn Woodpecker give them a wide berth. Still, nice to look at...

The Tower Grove Park owlets were out and visible during my visit. Many thanks to another birder who generously shared their location.

A crane was surprised by a fox. It ended with the fox had to run back into the woods. No one was hurt
Who ever was responsible for this work of art deserves a medal or a pay rise!

I spent some time in the last half hour of light one day at a local park watching this Say's Phoebe flit around from tree to tree.
Taken a few years ago. We used to pass her standing at the gate of an isolated house in the Forest. Not sure whether she was meant to be a guard dog, but if she was, she obviously never got the memo, as she was always happy to see me
