This is where we brainstorm out large projects. Typically when we have a client in from out of town they take residence in this room and meet with our team members one at a time until all the details are worked out.
Three original business documents, issued by the Jaffa & Jerusalem Railway between 1892 and 1914 and carrying various Turkish-Ottoman stamps, dealing with the transport of passengers (probably Russian pilgrims) aboard several chartered trains from the Port of Jaffa, near Tel Aviv, to the city of Jerusalem.

Yes, it is Gundam.
Is it a mall, commune, collective, a set of otaku art studios or a communal nest, places of refuge for the imagination?
Gundam models are architectural models of fantasy machines. These aren't toys. As models they already are machines just as buildings are machines. As models they provide study into the functions of machines in fantasy worlds.
With an nyc rooftop viewfinder,
the architecture details are different compared to Asia. With features as unique fire escapes and grunge charm; this proposal lends Gundam a new local flavor contrast.
The set of four open otaku studios (viewed from the back of the camera) allows the photographer to envision spaces for his passions. The architectural model doubles also as a camera. Why a camera? Why not a blender or a pencil box? Because the camera and the architectural model both provide views to study the design and its siting (imagine this for a Gundam). Both types of machines allow us to view the world from an enclosed space colored by local surroundings and personal spaces; this has been a stereotype of the relationship of the otaku with the world which was a defining perspective. Of course it has changed for the better. Yet both are niche worlds and forms of modern identity.

Während des Rundgangs stoßen sie dabei auf ein Notizbuch mit historischer Bedeutung: Heinrich Himmlers privater Taschenkalender mit persönlichen Einträgen, die er 1940 schrieb. Dieser Taschenkalender ist eines der wichtigsten Exponate der gesamten Ausstellung. Seine Echtheit ist vom Bundesarchiv in Koblenz überprüft worden.
[…] Der Rundgang führt durch die historischen Räume im ehemaligen Wachgebäude, in denen die Ausstellung die lokale Geschichte der SS in Wewelsburg und des Konzentrationslagers Wewelsburg in eine umfangreiche Gesamtdarstellung der Schutzstaffel einbettet. […]
In den Blick genommen werden auch die Hauptakteure der SS. Ihr „Reichsführer“ Heinrich Himmler zählte zu den einflussreichsten Personen des nationalsozialistischen Regimes. Seine verschiedene Termin- und Dienstkalender bezeugen eine rege, geradezu rastlose Reisetätigkeit, welche in den Kriegsjahren stark zunahm. Die Wewelsburg besuchte Himmler mindestens 25 Mal. Stets hielt er sich nur für wenige Tage dort auf. Des Öfteren empfing er bei dieser Gelegenheit Gäste. Meist waren es hohe SS-Führer oder Personen, die für die Organisation von großem Nutzen waren. Zu ihnen zählte auch Hitlers Architekt Albert Speer, der im März 1940 die Wewelsburg besuchte. Auffällig im Kalender sind rote Zahlen, die Himmler mit Buntstift eintrug: Sie kennzeichnen die Tage seit Beginn des Zweiten Weltkriegs. Für Heinrich Himmler markierte der 1. September 1939 den Beginn einer neuen Zeitrechnung. Für ihn war der Krieg das geeignete und legitime Mittel, um die rassistisch begründeten machtpolitischen Ziele und Visionen der SS zu verwirklichen.

In the 60s, during a banquet feast at the famed Port Arthur Restaurant on Mott Street in Chinatown, a very kindly salesman gave me a tie tack in the shape of a tiny golden lighthouse that lit brightly using a tiny battery.
These next two drawings show more or less one kind of process I use frequently. Cheap materials (xerox correction fluid, highlighters, ballpoints), a growing list of referents from anywhere in my mind that relate as I continue my design and a drawing style that complements this (I hope). The design is the drawing, text and references. In the Chinese style of funereal objects as Ming Qi, substitutes for objects and gifts for the dead abound.
Do these designs work? Only loosely. Are they functionally useful? Only loosely. Should they be built? Only abstractly, on paper and in thought. My fantasies are focused on the people and their lives for whom I am making these.
Here in this proposed design, the street photographer Vivian Maier inspires a remake of the Tessina for a watch camera dedicated to the late NY Times Architectural critic Ada Louise Huxtable whose book, "skyscraper-style" inspires in return a dedication to Maier's milieu. I like to work in doubles; if I could pick an iconic symbol for my own process, it would be a peanut in a shell.
The skyscraper cube detaches from it's wristband and extends to full-length before attaching onto an iPhone with a light tight seal of blu-tack that is originally stored in the skyscraper's base in a fresh plastic wrapper like a piece of gum. The top of the skyscraper is a dark slide that may have to be assembled and then inserted halfway in to use the viewfinder, the twin lens recalls Maier's Rolleiflex. Why did Leica never make a twins lens reflex design? When the subject is focused, pulling the dark slide all the way up allows the mirror inside to reflect the image towards the iPhone lens. By the time we all get to see this made in prototype, perhaps an iPhone app with an SLR function will have been invented to attach in this manner. Except for the iPhone attachment, this wrist camera function just like the legendary Tessina.
