Plains reedgrass might be confused for a rhizomatous wheatgrass such as thickspike (Agropyron dasystachyum) because of the mostly solidary bluegreen stems, except that this reed grass has a well developed membranous ligule combined with no auricles.

Darren and I shared this at Pure & Simple Cafe in Greencastle, PA... cucumber, apple, celery, pineapple, wheat grass and lemon.

This area shows no evidence of being recently burned (e.g., high sagebrush cover). The dominant bunchgrasses (e.g., Agropyron spicatum, Elymus elymoides, Poa secunda, and Stipa comata) abound in this setting as they do in the adjacent burned sagebrush steppe. Cheatgrass in this area is restricted to the roadside. In other words, what dominates after the fire is often what dominates before the fire (excepting big sagebrush).

The lemmas are long hairy, which often dry yellowish straw-colored. Hence the name yellow wildrye.

Wheatgrass juice has almost 70% of chlorophyll, which is the green pigment in plants. As well as we have our blood, plants have theirs and chlorophyll actually has a similar molecular structure to our blood. It is good for your body to drink wheatgrass juice and I hope many of you will do it regularly. What you need to have is a wheatgrass juicer, because regular ones won't juice wheatgrass. 877MyJuicer is a great website that offers many juicers to choose from. Find the perfect Wheatgrass Juicer for your needs and get healthy today!

I've been munching on wheatgrass like it's going out of style.

Regardless of the nature and degree to which sagebrush steppe is disturbed, cheatgrass seldom colonizes this habitat in and around the Rexburg area. Menan Butte sits in the background left.

A 100% organic blend of superfoods in powder form - registered with The Vegan Society and Soil Association. A meal replacement, plant protein shake and green drink in one! Sagebrush steppe not burned during the Long Draw fire included an area on the north slope of Blue Mountain Pass along highway 95, which was dominated by crested wheatgrass and essentially devoid of cheatgrass.

Hordeum leporinum is capable of colonizing cracks in sidewalks and asphalt, like many other grass species. The spike is fairly large, often about 2 cm in diameter. At each inflorescence node, the lateral spikelets are as large as the central one, analogous to the condition in six-row barley. This site lies in Eureka, Humboldt County, California.

When coming to Wheatgrass Juicers, there are two main options out on the market, centrifugal or masticating. In terms of product, best wheatgrass juicers are the masticating types. The centrifugal juicer can’t extract as much juice and operates at a higher temperature, which breaks down the nutrients you are extracting from the grass and leafy vegetables. When it comes to using wheatgrass to gain these vital nutrients, I believe Masticating Juicers are the best way to go! There is a great selection of these wheatgrass juicers and much more at 877MyJuicer !

"Whether I'm camping in the woods in Oregon (like I was last week) or on the Beach in Miami (like I am right now) or at The Magic Kingdom (like I will be next week) I ALWAYS bring PINES WHEAT GRASS TABLETS from the @wheatgrass_people with me! It's harder to eat the amount of GREENS while traveling that we normally eat at home!"

"I love this company & that I can totally trust the amazing & and nutrient-dense greens that go into each and every product that they produce. PINES is a company you can 100% trust! So thankful that my girl @livingcleanwchristine introduced me to them at #EXPOWEST! Their products are 100% #ORGANIC, #GMOFREE, #VEGAN, #RAW, #KOSHER & #GLUTENFREE!"

Krysten knows that Pines was established 40 years ago as the original #greensuperfood company and is still the only one to follow the scientific standards established in 1937 by the Dr. Charles Schnabel, the father of #wheatgrass. Pines not only follows Schnabel's standards for growing and harvesting wheatgrass, we also follow his packaging standards and are the only green #superfood company to package in amber glass bottles with special metal caps that allow us to remove the oxygen from each bottle to prevent the oxidation, devitalization and loss of color that occurs when green foods are packaged inappropriately in plastic containers and paper packets.

Pines was the official green food of the #IronmanTriathlon in Kona, Hawaii, and since 1976 has been the top choice for #athletes as well as anyone seeking to increase their intake of dark green leafy #vegetables. Studies show that 9 out of 10 people do not receive enough #vegetable nutrition to protect their health.

The two pair of awn-like glumes per node combined with the single floret per spikelet and annual habit render this grass very distinctive among the wheatgrasses.

Near Mountain Home, the sagebrush steppe, regardless if fire disturbed, is often colonized by cheatgrass, as at this site.

Antennaria stenophylla, narrowleaf pussytoes, is common in the sagebrush steppe near Waterville, Douglas County, Washington, where native perennial herbs in general are diverse in this area. The narrow and relatively long leaves, loose mat-forming habit, and black involucral bracts (phyllaries) are distinctive of this species.

In Montana, the expected roadside grasses are usually exotics such as smooth brome (Bromus inermis) and crested wheatgrass (Agropyron cristatum). Somehow, this roadside section between Wilsall and Ringling became dominated by the native thickspike wheatgrass.Note the wheatgrass auricle.

5 mi E Lodge Grass, Wolf Mountains, sandy soil, Fort Union formation, tall grass type, July 1952 MONT.

The area of sagebrush steppe is dominated by the exotic bunchgrass Agropyron cristatum so it is not surprising that an annual exotic grass like Bromus tectorum would be absent here (yet common along adjacent roadsides). This area lies in the Pahsimeroi Valley, ENE of Mount Borah, Custer County, Idaho (and northwest of the town of Howe).

Bluebunch wheatgrass forms large loose bunches common on exposed slopes. This bunchgrass is common on exposed slopes, here a west facing slope along the trail leaving the Peets Hill area to the main ridgeline of Burke Park, Bozeman, Gallatin County, Montana.

This grass seems to be found only on the gravelly more exposed uplands in this area.

Seen while we were on a botanizing trip to the land belonging to a friend of Susan W, west of Turner Valley. Taken on October 14th.

Here is what they said:

"Are you one that’s nauseated by the smell and aftertaste of wheatgrass but long to get all those wonderful health benefits? If so, we have the thing for you and you’re gonna love us even more now!!! :)

.

"Wheatgrass Tablets!!!

.

"Now you can simply pop them into your mouth and voila… you’ve gotten the best nutrition you can get, without the gag reflex and without the worry of it being grown properly under the right conditions.

.

"PINES Wheat Grass Tablets are an incredibly convenient, surprisingly economical way to make sure you (and your kids) eat green vegetables every day! Get some today at Live Green!"

The reason #PinesWheatGrass tastes so good is because it is grown under natural conditions, through often-freezing temperatures, outdoors in rich glacial soil, where the roots can go down deep instead of being a moldy mess in the bottom of a tray.

The stuff grown in trays has seeds 300 times closer than is natural, and those poor spindly leaves are cruelly forced to grow seven times faster than is natural in extremely crowded unnatural conditions.. Tray grass is loaded with bacteria and mold. Combined with being forced to grow so unnaturally, it is no wonder it tastes bad. Nature's pay back!

Pines harvests at the once-a-year time when REAL #wheatgrass reaches its peak, it is still shorter than the unnatural kind but is much darker green and the leaves are healthy looking, thick, juicy, flavorful and without the mold and high bacteria levels of that grown unnaturally in trays.
