I got this weight set from my kids a couple years ago when I turned 40…some people laughed about that thinking that they were trying to tell me something :-) Anyway, I did start a weight lifting program back then but it only lasted a few weeks and then I quit. But I had said to myself that once I was finished my 365 I would start weight lifting again and so I started last week, working out three days a week. Today was the beginning of week two and I plan on keeping it up even when I don’t feel like it. I had lifted weights about eight years ago and really liked it but quit about five months into it after I had a bad fall on my horse and couldn’t weight lift for quite a while and besides I was working on a horse farm three days a week and was getting a big enough work out doing chores there.

I used to LOVE working out, running, weight lifting, rowing, etc. Since we live in a rural area it was cheaper to put a gym in our basement when we moved here than drive 30min each way to a gym. When I started gardening though, I didn't have time to workout and I much prefer gardening to running now, not to mention my scoliosis acts up when I run too many miles. With the possibility of a move on the horizon we decided it was the right time to get rid of the treadmill, weights, bowflex & other stuff.

Good thing I never got rid of my old weights & weight bench because I’m going to put them to use. After a year of working out with a personal trainer I’m calling it quits because I’m tired of driving 10 miles to get there.

The weight bench is one of the most versatile and useful fitness equipment in the gym. There are many kinds of weight benches; flat, angled, upright, or adjustable. They are great equipment that allows you to lift heavy weights safely so that you can get ripped and the best thing about it is that you don’t need to be a pro in the gym.
One of the best things about the weight bench is the sheer amount of exercises that you can do while using it. You can use dumbbells or a barbell to work every muscle in your upper body and even some of your core and lower body, especially if the weight bench has a leg curler attached.
I would recommend using a weight bench that is adjustable with leg curlers. This type is the best for a beginner because it will allow you to use it for every muscle group and adjust it for your body height and fitness level. For this tutorial, we will be assuming that you are using this type of weight bench.
