This is the largest gator I've ever seen in or out of captivity. This fellow was a monster. I'm guessing this guy is about 13 feet and weights in at about 790 pounds. It was truly a monster.

I think we've got some wild and windy cold weather later this week , so I hope for some good beach fun. It'll make a. change from my adder watching. I've seen well over twenty individuals so far this year. the males should be shedding their skins soon then looking for females. So much to look forward to. Weights and Measures is by Dry the River

A single blade of grass frozen by the iced surface of a pond, and weighed down by the weight if ice and frost crystals that cover its entire surface.

In this haunting landscape the viewer is drawn into a twisted path flanked by grotesque, gnarled trees. The road winds through an eerie forest, where each tree appears to writhe in silent agony, their twisted forms creating a claustrophobic tunnel of shadows. The oppressive atmosphere is palpable, as if the very air is thick with the weight of forgotten sorrows and lost souls. The monochromatic palette enhances the sense of desolation, transforming the scene into a surreal nightmare.

The jaguar is a large cat species and the only living member of the genus Panthera native to the Americas. With a body length of up to 1.85 m and a weight of up to 158 kg, it is the largest cat species in the Americas and the third largest in the world.

Jaguars are the only big cat in the Americas and the third biggest in the world after tigers and lions. They look a lot like leopards, which live in Africa and Asia, but jaguars’ spots are more complex and often have a dot in the center.

These powerful cats were worshipped as gods in many ancient South American cultures, and representations of the jaguar show up in the art and archaeology of pre-Columbian cultures across the jaguar’s range.

Jaguars face a number of threats, including habitat fragmentation and illegal killing. South and Central America’s high rates of deforestation—for grazing land, agriculture, and other uses—have not only destroyed jaguars’ habitat but also broken it up. Fragmented forests mean that cats get boxed into patches of forest and can’t travel far to find new mates. That kind of isolation can lead to inbreeding and local extinctions.

Another threat jaguars face is retaliatory killings from ranchers. As grazing land replaces forests, jaguars are more likely to hunt cattle. In response—and sometimes in anticipation—cattle owners kill jaguars.

Poaching is another growing problem for jaguars. They’ve long been hunted for their pelts, and now there’s a growing illegal, international trade in jaguar teeth and jaguar bone products going to China.

Conservation Status: Near Threatened - in Brazil Threatened.

The meerkat (Suricata suricatta) or suricate is a small carnivoran in the mongoose family. It is the only member of the genus Suricata. Meerkats live in all parts of the Kalahari Desert in Botswana, in much of the Namib Desert in Namibia and southwestern Angola, and in South Africa. A group of meerkats is called a mob, gang or clan. A meerkat clan often contains about 20 meerkats, but some super-families have 50 or more members. In captivity, meerkats have an average life span of 12–14 years, and about 6–7 years in the wild. Meerkats are primarily insectivores, but also eat other animals (lizards, snakes, scorpions, spiders, eggs, small mammals, millipedes, centipedes and, more rarely, small birds), plants and fungi. Meerkats are immune to certain types of venom, including the very strong venom of the scorpions of the Kalahari Desert. A meerkat has the ability to dig through a quantity of sand equal to its own weight in just seconds. Digging is done to create burrows, to get food and also to create dust clouds to distract predators. R_8688

The children who were playing with soap bubbles left this one to float in the air. It kept growing until this monster of colour stopped floating and began to come back to earth due to it's own weight.

The Nikon D850 weighs 915g (2.017 lb) for the body only, and 1005g (2.22 lb) with the battery and a memory card.

By Comparison my gear:

The Olympus E-M1 Mark II weighs

574 g (1.27 lb / 20.25 oz) with the battery and memory card included.

It doesn't sound like much of a difference - but when you have been holding it for several hours you can tell. Its one of the main reasons my Nikon gear is generally gathering dust.

In the street I wasn't sure why he seemed to be "lighting up the sky" with his flash.

It's another changeable day today, we're hoping to do some butterfly transects this afternoon but we need a bit of sun . We'll see. I had a lovely meal last night with June, and had some orchids potted by her, so my collection is growing. Weights and measures is by Dry The River.

Old brass weights, complete with dust! :-)

Seems not as big as they said it would be.

...hardly any weight at all.

his face, weathered like old leather, told stories no words could reach. from the street, i caught a glimpse of him—his hands folded, his gaze steady, as if lost between memory and the present. the café den coll, open to the street, framed the scene like a stage. he spoke to another man, but his thoughts seemed miles away. i focused my lens on him, drawn to the weight of his silence, the years etched in his features. the slate beside him bore the words "se feliz," a handwritten reminder, almost ironic in its quiet boldness. perhaps it’s the simplest wisdom, the hardest to follow: be happy.

Shellfish transport

Kampong-Chhnang (Cambodia) - We are still on the banks of the “Tonle Sap” river. The man carries a load of about 60 kg of shells, despite 40 kilos advertised on the bag. I lifted one and can say 40 pounds is a joke next to the actual weight. These shells (like cockles) were caught during the day. Man tranships the (barefoot) these bags, one by one, in a truck that will leave deliver its cargo in Phnom Penh, 90 km south of Kampong Chhnang.

I took this while taking photos for the Meijer State Games of Michigan, January 2015. I was covering the weight lifting competition and forgot how I was able to shoot some great expressions.

I always liked my square version I made on medium format film a few years ago, but I always felt this needed to be seen at a wider format... So far, the Sony A7 & Nikon 24mm seem to get the job done.
