I finally figured out why all my nicely saturated sunset images were coming out all dry and washed out. As it turns out, web browsers based on the Gecko engine (i.e. Mozilla's Firefox and Camino, my personal favorite) treat every image they see as if it were in the sRGB color profile. When exporting these images from Lightroom, I did not convert their color profile from ProPhoto, and were therefore misinterpreted by Camino. However, if you use a browser based on the WebKit engine (Safari is for Mac and Windows, also Shiira for Mac), it will read it properly, as WebKit can decode multiple color profiles. I should probably re-upload those photos.
