A new design concept for my personal blog. I like this one.
I remember when I first moved to the city. I resolved to keep one of these new fangled blog things to tell friends back home what life was like for me here in the big city. It was also my first experiment with writing online content.
If you were to dig though my archives and read my early posts you would find a whole gamut of poorly written prose that tumbles awkwardly over scatter-brained subjects ranging from HTML to Donald Trump. It was drivel, but it was passionate drivel. I posted something at least once a week, sometimes more often. It was my way of keeping my hand in the game even though I sometimes felt like I was being bluffed by my own inexperience.
Unfortunately I became a little wiser. Aware of how poor my writing was, I lost some of that passion. So as time went on I posted less and less frequently. And what I did post was terse and empty; links that had been already publicized to death and observations so basic that they were about as satisfying as a hamburger made of salad.
I've done several design mockups for my personal blog. KvC Modern and KvC News were my two favorites. (You can find them here on Flickr) With Modern I tried to create a social networking profile without the social network. With News I tried to create a news website without the news. Neither design captured the simplicity needed to express my personal thoughts effectively. That's why I created KvC Smooth.
I'm building a working version of Smooth right now. I want to have it finished this weekend. So if it's not up at kenvsthecity.com by Monday, feel free to chastise me via email.
My little mouse logo is now huuuge. I've given my del.icio.us link feed, which I still enjoy posting to, the prominence it deserves. I've made the blog part much simpler. I've even left a spot open for a small Amazon.com affiliate link. Let me know what you think about the design.
