I am in the process of rolling out all of my new logo stuff with my packaging. I won't officially roll it out to clients until after the New Year, but I thought I would do a test run with a gift certificate I am giving to Connor's teacher for Christmas.
Here are the details. :)
Logo was done by Amanda E.
5x7 Boxes - Paper Source
Tissue Paper - Nashville Wraps
Larger Square Labels - Mobile Graphics (local company here in Victor, but they did an AMAZING job on the labels. They come in 12x16 inch sheets and depending on how many you order are like $5.00 a sheet! They are easy to work with, so check out their site!
Brown Bags - Nashville Wraps
5x7 envelopes from Paper Source
M&M's in logo colors (each client gets a bag of these, with print orders there is a "Thank You" card attached. - local Wegman's.
Business Cards were printed at Miller's with rounded corners and UV coating. I need to make that brown on the card the same dark brown as the rest of my packaging...I don't like them this way at all.
The gift certificate goes in the envelope and that goes in the box. The box goes in the bag. :) Lots of unwrapping that way!

Runnymede Station
Elicser Elliot's distinctive aerosol style is on display in groups of portraits of subway patrons throughout the concourse and street level. The images are taken from Elliot's sketchbook of real and imagined people: for example, the nurse is actually Elliot's agent's grandmother who lives near Runnymede Station, and took the same subway to work every day for 40 years. As the artist says, ““Anonymous Somebody” captures the snippets of our bustling Bloor West Village lives while standing still. The artworks aim to communicate the story of individual spirit as fresh and relevant to the metabolism of the neighbourhood. The images work as an anchor to a thought or memory for the person viewing it - to commemorate, celebrate, provoke, and heal”.
The characters are presented three-dimensionally, on panels that do not wholly align with the surrounding tiling, as if served up to us for our contemplation. We might recognize ourselves in them – the woman on the cell phone at the top of the escalator, the man sleeping on a streetcar after a hard shift, the woman sitting on a bench with a coffee and a magazine, the man waiting for a bus with his hands in his pockets. These are the glimpses we see as we transit through our day, and these we see again and again as we pass through the station. We will have our favourites, wonder at their stories, give them names, design a backstory for them.
Elicser Elliot is an alumnus of Sheridan College's animation program. Initially an aerosol artist, his work has been shown at the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Royal Ontario Museum and the McMichael Museum.

I'm happy to report that Petey is still enjoying the big pillow I got him for napping on the sofa. And that led to poodlenose mentioning some dog blankets they got at LLBean, which led me to order a bed with a quasi-real mattress from LLBean, which Pete loves. So thanks to poodlenose for the suggestion. Pete can rest comfortably in pretty much any room of the house now :-)

Untitled by Khaula Mazhar: Since the neighbourhood has a large population of immigrants, South Asians in particular, I used an image of a young South Asian woman in her traditional attire appreciating nature. Adjusting to her new world, like so many immigrant women she is naturally resilient and looks for something familiar to give her hope and strength. Nature is something that we love and appreciate in any part of the world, and it makes an appearance in so many classic western and eastern paintings, our love of nature is something that connects us all, it can bring us together and strengthen community. The style is a contemporary twist on Mughal art inspired by the work of Hajra Mansoor, who is the pride of the South Asian community.
I am working on an ongoing series that appreciates South Asian women. Growing up in Canada at a time when diversity was not as appreciated it was very hard to be a visibly brown girl. My culture was misrepresented and misunderstood and rather than feeling any sense of pride for my rich history and culture I felt awkward and basically like I would just like to disappear into the surroundings and not stand out. Over time I started to feel the need to make a space for myself, my ethnicity and be able to share my stories myself rather than have a non-brown person tell their version of it. I realized how important it was for young girls to see positive images that they could relate to and realize that their beauty was unique and that standards set by non-coloured people were not something they had to follow or be intimidated by. They should celebrate and share their own history, and culture and take pride in their ethnicity.

A message with massive impact to all chosen ones and star seeds:
You are the water of water the source of love your light and your being is what awakens those around you.
Through you they can realize what it means to be truly loved without prejudice.
Not everyone will be able to understand you emotionally because you have a different perspective on the world, but be sure that the waves of your love will reach even the smallest corner of the universe because you are and have always been exactly what humanity has wanted for eons.
Yes, you heard right, you are a wish that has come true, which is also the reason why you often have the feeling that you are the fairy godmother for others.
Your fairy godmother is also on her way to you. You may not realize it yet, but love, joy, happiness and many magical miracles are on their way to you.
You have the gift of touching the innermost part of each individual and awakening what lies dormant in each of them, simply through your being.
Be as you are, because that is exactly where your magic lies. You may not always see it, but your light can be seen and felt throughout the entire universe.
You have already experienced what an interstellar encounter with someone from another star race feels like.
Be sure you will get to know a few others. The universe will guide you and you will realize and feel that your intuition is getting stronger.
We know that it is not always easy to understand what we want to give you, but as you already know, it will come to you when the time is right.
Know that we are incredibly grateful for what you are doing because it takes courage, strength and an iron will and you have had all of that since the beginning of time.
The message from Atlantis: The Age of Aquarius has already begun and you are all in the middle of it The love you feel will change, it will be deeper than anything you have ever known. You will realize that you will love more than just one person. Because love is what connects you all, just like the water of water that embraces our Mother Earth.
No matter where you are, what you are doing, take a moment to close your eyes, listen to the music and feel the gratitude flowing through your body.
Gratitude that you woke up this morning, gratitude that you can feel and sense this very moment, because you are all in the here and now. Take the time every day to pause for a moment and to realize what you are grateful for that day, because gratitude is the sister of love.
Raise your vibration now because the ascension process has long since begun.
With kind regards your Universe

Morning Glory
Spadina Station
Louis de Niverville was a celebrated collage artist who got his start with a mural at the Expo Theatre in Montreal for Expo 67. At the age of six, he was hospitalized for five years with spinal tuberculosis and separated from his twelve siblings for fear of infection. Largely self-taught, he attributed much of the fantasy nature of his work to this lonely period when he had to entertain himself for hours at a time. He says, "When I was a child my pair of scissors was my most important toy; I liked to cut characters out of comic books. These little people took on a life of their own and became my best friends and even my family. I kept them in an envelope and when I took them out they gave wings to my imagination."
This large porcelain enamel collage, called Morning Glory, draws on his childhood dreams. We see a person lying in bed, seemingly protected by a lion, while, behind the child, a rabbit figure which appears to have been taken from Alice in Wonderland, stands watch. There are themes of escapism here. A girl in a nightdress floats away, lifted by a kite, while, on the other side, a Mary Poppins-type figure floats with an umbrella. A woman climbs the stairs with a giant cup of tea, and on the far left a person dives through a window. There are several women present, leaping over fences, crossing fields, dancing at the top of a staircase. Each of the people represented seems to be a character in a story of which we know only fragments.
Louis de Niverville’s work depicts scenes of surrealism and fantasy. His work appears at Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children and Pearson Airport, and in art galleries such as the Art Gallery of Ontario, the National Gallery, Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and the Agnes Etherington Art Centre in Kingston.

Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre Ikeda Tower and Garden
6 Garamond Court
Look up! The Sid and Marie Ikeda Tower was erected in 1998 when the JCCC moved to its current location at 6 Garamond Court. It acts as a welcoming beacon to the community and has become one of the JCCC’s signature architectural features. It was designed, in the style of a Japanese andon lantern, by Bruce Kuwabara of KPMB Architects.
As you walk under the tower and closer to the JCCC’s main entrance, on either side of the walkway you find the Ijusha Garden, named in honour of the post-war new immigrant community. This traditional Japanese landscape garden was officially opened in June 1999 by Prince and Princess Hitachi-no-Miya of Japan. It was designed by landscape architect Scott Yonezo Fujita, who first trained in Japan and then received his Canadian credentials at the Ryerson Institute of Technology.
Shin-ijusha is the Japanese word for Japanese immigrants who arrived in Canada after WWII. Fujita-san, through his design and building of this garden, sought to bring the established pre-war Japanese Canadians and the Shin-ijusha communities together to celebrate their common heritage. About 70 children from four different Japanese language schools of Ijusha families volunteered to plant boxwoods in the garden.
On both sides of the garden, you will see Japanese flowering cherry trees. Stepping onto the central sidewalk is like strolling through a landscape in Japan. The garden evokes images of the mountains and seas of Japan. Pine trees shaped like bonsai as aged, large rocks, raked gravel and other trees and bushes are strategically placed after much consideration to create that impression. Textures of hard and soft, large trees and small shrubs, subtle colours in varying shades of green, strong lines and shapes contrasting with more diffuse backgrounds– these elements are all carefully chosen and placed to create a natural harmony. Drawing from traditional Japanese garden elements, there are bamboo fences and a large stone lantern. As the garden is a living installation, it is always evolving and requires constant maintenance. Left to nature, the plants would overgrow and lose their form, weeds would take over and the tranquillity, balance and harmony of the garden would be lost. Today, the Toronto Japanese Garden Club and volunteers tend the gardens.

Have you jumped on the birthday cake flavor bandwagon? I used to like the flavor, but made some cookies using the boxed birthday cake mix and now I just think it tastes like chemicals. I’m still a fan of the Cake Batter Chapstick, though.
This sweater looks beige in some lights and a very pale pink in others. I originally described it as oatmeal, but oatmeal with rainbow sprinkles.

On the nights when I can't sleep, I cast my nets to see what the universe and my heart people have to say.
My heart people are always amazed at how I know things just like that, even though they don't tell me anything and sometimes even have no contact with me for weeks or months.
I then tell them again and again with joy that I feel them and yes, sometimes that is no walk in the park either. Many people don't realize that what they send out also reaches the other person in some way. The universe always finds a way.
I would like to show you what a channeling sounds like during a soul process and this is just an extract from one night, some processes take years, if not decades, it is not a race, it is a marathon, so it is also important that you take good care of yourself and take time for yourself in between.
Since I receive many messages from the universe, I will show you a few that I received on 7.11.23 at night, some of which I have already been able to send to the people for whom it was intended ♥

Life is like an orchestra
Are you ready to listen deeper into yourself than ever before?
Can you hear the sound of your soul, can you feel how it begins to pulsate in rhythm?
Can you feel the chills racing through your body?
She is THERE! Feel it from the tips of your hair to your little toe FEEL YOURSELF!
Can you feel your light starting to shine?
Shine brighter than ever before because absolutely NOTHING can stop you.
The angel Metatron is at your side because YOU are creating your own REALITY.
Do you hear the soft whisper?
It whispers: are you ready? Because there is so much more to come.
Are you ready to open up and receive?
Are you ready for inner and outer abundance? Because dear one, it is on its way to you and it will be bigger than any Zunami wave you have mastered so far.
I know you can feel it because you are different! You don't need portal days to hear us because you don't just hear us, you feel us and see us.
We are with you, we always have been, and it is a joy to watch you master yourself and turn negatives into positives.
Can you hear the applause, the roaring and shouting of your angels and ancestors?
When you decided to take this path, even we had our doubts, but we are all the more pleased to see how well you are doing.
With every level you climb, the positive and negative energies feel stronger. The stronger YOU become, the stronger your Opponents will be.
Adjust your focus if necessary because dear we are still here, you are not alone even if it sometimes feels like you are. We know how you love to fight your battles alone always remember to ask for help and it will be given to you.
You have managed to draw strength from the pain that bring you down.
So many sleepless nights that some people would collapse under, but NOT YOU!
You use your time and work hard on yourself, always want to know more and even if you fall, you just get up again and carry your scars with pride!
You also draw your strength from them because they have all made you who you are today.
You are love, you are the abundance of abundance.
Let us all tell you one thing, we are incredibly proud of you!
Keep up the good work follow the signs we send you and stay in trust remember come what may and WANT what may come!
In the name of light with light for light and love because love is the strongest force
With kind regards your Universe ♥

This early Smith & Wesson rimfire revolver is engraved, "Capt. S.F. Willard presented by the Scranton Guards." Capt. Willard died at Antietam 9/17/1862 (see flic.kr/p/MdTM4J). The revolver carries serial number 3346 on the butt and has patent dates of 4/3/1856, 7/3/1859 and 12/18/1860 on the revolver drum. According to www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Category4_..., "In 1856 Smith & Wesson formed their second partnership to produce a small revolver designed to fire the Rimfire cartridge they patented in August of 1854. This revolver was the first successful fully self-contained cartridge revolver available in the world. Smith & Wesson secured patents for the revolver to prevent other manufacturers from producing a cartridge revolver - giving the young company a very lucrative business."

Untitled by Moises Frank: At this point talking to black squares on zoom became a normal part of my everyday cycle. Rinse and repeat, program after program. However, this group opened a window of fresh air. A rather unlikely amalgamation of people from different walks gathered to explore public art and specifically mural making. As the weeks progressed, I would soon be able to connect familiar voices to new smiles turning their cameras on for the session.
I was tuning in from my small but cozy apartment on Weston Road. We discussed in great depth the fundamentals of colour, composition and murals we thought were whack whilst drinking tea and listening to some chill lofi music. When the time came to start designing this mural we had lengthy debates on how to represent something without it being too obvious or too tacky.
We found ourselves contemplating a laundromat. Sort of an odd place to represent diversity, however the more we conceptualized the more meaning started to unfold. I thought about the laundromat in my building. A truly communal space. A space where you would meet neighbours you didn’t know you had.
I thought about the laundromat my mom went to and ended up working at in Rexdale. I thought about the people that went there, the different cultures, the different scents, different fabrics, different stories intersecting in this common place to clean; to carry and to care for these articles that in some way are an outer representation of something internal. We may have dressed differently or used different soap, but this was a uniquely human task. Everybody needs to wash their underwear.
The following weeks we shared stories of clothes and materials that were personal and meaningful to us and brainstormed different ways to represent our collection. We imagined a clothesline that held and united our diverse fabrics and patterned clothing as symbolic flags waving proudly together.
It’s deeply satisfying to reflect on the small black squares becoming a small window into someone's home and deeper yet a small window into someone's being. I am honoured to share space and manifest ideas into spray painted murals.

Finch West Station
Finch West Station is a remarkable collaboration between London-based artist Bruce McLean and architects Will Alsop and Richard Stevens. Alsop, who passed away in 2018 was a renowned English architect who also designed Pioneer Village Station, and the iconic Sharp Centre at OCAD, also known as the Table Top. From the luscious yellow tiling on the platform walls, red hexagonal tiles in the corridors, zebra-striped flooring and exterior and the tinted windows, this exuberant display of colour and line is meant to cheer us up. The concrete columns underground reference 6000 year old Minorcan pillars that would have supported the roofs of underground houses. Follow the signs for Buses and exit the station. Outside, notice the elevated substation facility on the second floor which overhangs the main entrance, and is highlighted by a glowing red grille at the north end of the seemingly bar-coded subway building.
On the side of the station, we see the large sculptural concrete forms supporting the building: these reference Greek caryatids, sculpted female figures serving as architectural supports taking the place of a column, most famously used at the Acropolis in Athens. Walk around to the bus bay. Once again we see strong sculptural columns this time supporting the canopy which spreads out above like a palm tree. If you’re finding it hard to tell where exactly the architecture stops and the art begins, that is by design. As artist Bruce McLean explains: “The sculptures are intended to be part of the structure and fabric of the building and should in a way be invisible.”
Bruce McLean, is a Scottish sculptor, painter and performance artist. He was Head of Graduate Painting at The Slade School of Fine Art London, and has exhibited at the Tate Gallery, The Modern Art Gallery in Vienna and Museum of Modern Art in Oxford.

Over the weekend I made a pair of modeling key lights for ~$35 a piece (thx home depot).
This is my first time playing with four lights at the same time. As you can tell from the picture, I clearly know what I'm doing. ;)
For those of you interested in building your own always-on modeling studio lights, here are a few words on how I build mine:
Do it yourself modeling key lights
Light fixture and lamps:
BE CAREFUL, light fixtures come with bare wires and require an electrician to install. They do not come ready to plug straight into the wall. I am an electrical engineer and know how to hook these up. Please do NOT do this yourself if you don't know what you are doing because you can get hurt and end up in the hospital.
For the light fixture, I bought the Lithonia Lighting, 2 lamps, T8 electronic ballast for ~$17 at Home Depot. Similar to this one but the two lamp model.
For the lamps, you need two T8 Fluorescent lamps per light fixture. Buy the T8 lamps instead of T12, here's why: T8 are more energy efficient, better color rendering, longer lasting, faster start time, no flickering and are cooler than T12. As far as color temperature, it is up to you to decide what kind of effect you want. I chose the 6500K daylight lamp, which is extreme white and is generally used in studios. Home Depot usually has the lights on display so you can see the different colors each of them produce before you buy.
Stand:
Since you have no assistants, you need a way to hold the light vertically. This is where you need to be a little creative. My solution to this was pretty cheap. I bought the cheapest floor lamp available at home depot ($11). I chose a floor lamp because they usually have sturdy stands, which is what I am looking for to keep my light fixture in place. Also they do not take much space, and that's great for small studios. Install only the pole to the base and now you have your stand ready.
Here's the tricky part, how to install the fixture to the stand. You may laugh at my solution but it works fine. You need a hose clamp, an L-clamp, a screw and a pair of wire ties. Place the L-clamp inside the hose clamp and tighten up as hard as you can to the pole. Then place the light fixture on top of the L-clamp, and screw it in to keep it from moving around. Then use the wire ties to secure both ends of the fixture to the stand.
That's it. The above was the best solution I could come up with that day. If you find another way to hook things up (better, sturdier stand, less money), please do leave a comment so we can all learn from you.
Now go enjoy your new lights and be creative ;)
Update: I used these lights with amazing results during a photo shoot here, here and here.

Twilight Zone Tower of Terror - HDR
October 2009
Something tells me you're not unlocking this door with the key of imagination. After the recent success of other Flickr contacts at posting their shots from the Studios, I decided to try my hand at a Tower of Terror shot for today.
I spent a lot of time back in this area on our recent trip. Part of it may have been me scraping off the rust, but I wasn't pleased with most of these shots. I don't think I made the most of the UWA, and I wish I had done some things differently. I like this shot alright, but I feel it doesn't bring anything new to the table (plus there's all sorts of odd unintentional distortion in it).
This shot is a two exposure HDR merged in Photoshop CS3 with the layers masked back on top of the HDR, and some more stuff done to it. No tone mapping was performed. Much time was spent making the saturation correct in the Tower.
If, like me, you're a fan of both Christmas and the Twilight Zone, be sure to check out Hallmark's new Twilight Zone Christmas ornament. It's awesome!

Corinthian columns and capitals of the former bank building at King and Bay in Toronto. Built in 1912 by architect Carrere and Hastings of New York and Eustace Bird of Toronto. The building was demolished in 1966.

The white marble marvel is composed of a stepped stage backed by an arrangement of grand Corinthian columns, archways and ornate panels.
The Greek Theatre is made out of salvaged pieces of the former Bank of Toronto building on the Southwest corner of King and Bay streets, which stood where Mies Van Der Rohe’s TD Centre now stands. Constructed in 1913 and demolished in 1965 the neoclassical building was designed by the New York City architectural firm Carrere and Hastings, who designed the New York Public Library, and Toronto based Eustace G. Bird. Inspired by the historical Paris Stock Market—Palais Brongniart— the Bank of Toronto was a grand building; the plinth/base of the colonnade alone was taller than the people walking past it.
But this isn’t just a reconstruction - it is a complete reimagination! The elements were rearranged, shortened and adapted into a new structure designed by renowned Canadian architect Ron Thom in the 1980s. Unlike other artifacts at the park, this theatre is not just a folly, it is an actual working stage with productions throughout the year. And it’s the perfect place to get your wedding photos or that perfect Guild Park selfie!
