I have a weakness for Jugs, so today’s letter being J it seemed appropriate to share a small amount of my collection.

I think it's safe to say I am partial to historical villages and potential they hold for still life vignettes. I am especially drawn to old bottles. Sherbrooke Village has a wonderful apothecary store full of originally packages bottles, boxes and tins.

Once upon a time Vin and I had started a roleplay world inspired by Jim Henson's Labyrinth; in particular what happened AFTERWARDS. We've decided to create the characters that inhabited this world of the Underground and its King/Queendoms, and bring them to life. It all started with Jareth and Sarah's children and their epic love stories...and it has epically continued on and on through the generations.
What this world means to Vin and me...it is more than words can say. We put our souls into this world and what it represents. But it is our pleasure and excitement to be able to bring them to life.
The ones who kickstarted our whole story was Amalie (the eldest child of Jareth and Sarah who become the first Pure One) and Ciaran (a disgraced Raven prince who was the first to be known as: The Raven).
Upon first meeting, Ciaran did everything in his power (using rather cruel tactics) to scare away and send home the young woman who had come to his realm. He saw her as an enemy; someone who could and would undo everything he'd worked so hard for...
However Amalie was able to see past the mask and see Ciaran for who he really was: a misunderstood, broken man. She helped him regain his 'humanity' and therefore in him gained not only her greatest protector...but the love of her life.
Here in this scene, we're going behind closed doors. Heh, Amalie has always been Ciaran's greatest weakness and as he's told her numerous times, "You are always such a tease." After all one of her favorite things to do was tease and turn her husband on to see how quickly he would lose himself (especially since she appeared so sweet and innocent in public most of the time).

Hammersmith Bridge is a suspension bridge in west London. It allows road traffic and pedestrians to cross to Barnes, in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, on the south side of the river.
The construction of the actual bridge ended in 1887 and it is 210 m long and 13 m wide and cost £82,117 to build. This bridge is famous because it appeared in some scenes from the movie Sliding Doors filmed next to the bridge and in the Blue Anchor pub nearby.

Making this photo I had many different meanings in mind. Then I found this poem and it really solidified the connection I saw in both.
I went into the woods one day to location scout and found this tree had fallen. It was large and it took me by surprise. How did I not hear it fall as it tumbled to the ground? What was its cause of death? Something so grand which towered over me now lies broken upon the ground I walk; its limbs which once reached towards Heaven now dig into the earth
It's ironic how this correlates with people - keeping to themselves, not speaking a word, until it is too late.
This word is not one widely used in our culture anymore. It is seen as a position of weakness. We are told to either excuse things or hold grudges. Forgiveness is neither of those things. Forgiveness does not excuse the wrong done as if it never happened. Forgiveness does not hold a grudge against the wrongdoer. Forgiveness came at a cost. In order for our sins to be forgiven, they had to be paid for. There was still a consequence to the action. Our wrong does have consequences. Christ died so that we would be forgiven. He did not die so that we would be excused. Our sin cost Him His own life. Let that sink in for a minute. It cost the innocent Son of God His own life. A price had to be paid. This is where many of us become uncomfortable. We deserved the penalty He bore. We deserved death and the full wrath of God, but instead out of His crazy love for us, He took it upon Himself. For us to forgive someone is not for us to excuse them. The wrong is acknowledged as wrong. Forgiveness is to not hold the wrong against them not to state that they did not do the wrong. Because we are forgiven in Christ (for those who follow Him and believe who He says He is), we are not receiving what we deserved as punishment.

Misty's leg weakness have gotten significantly worse and she's having more difficulty walking and standing up for too long, so we've drastically cut back on her walks and going to the park only when she's feeling good enough, like on this day. It's hard, because the joy I see on her face when she's out there is so clear. We've done some more research and we're going to try out some leg braces next and see if they help...

RAW file developed entirely from the native free Olympus software with no further processing as it doesn’t need further enhancements. Took less than a couple of minutes. And yes, this is noticeably better than the SOOC JPEG.
Colors of images from m43 sensors often tend to be on the "thin and weak" side but there are ways to overcome it, even just by using the free Olympus RAW developer.
Meanwhile, many reviewers till today still tend to review mirrorless ILCs like they would DSLRs. As such the weakness of the mirrorless cameras are totally being glossed over.
Main differences in features of mirrorless vs DSLR are as appended.
Sensor read-out speed
====================
- A real achilles heel of mirrorless that reviewers often avoid any mention or de-emphasized.
Eg; A recent camera review I came across mentioned that the EOS R6 was better for action than A7III but the latest A7IV is now better than the R6. Zero mention of sensor read-out speed where the A7IV remained the same as A7III at a dismal 1/15s for uncompressed RAW or 1/30s at 12bit RAW compared to the EOS R6 at 1/60s at 12bit RAW.
- Resulting “rolling shutter effect” in fast action shots and video due to slow sensor read-out speed.
- The highest FPS of mirrorless cameras are in electronic shutter mode but it defeats the purpose if the sensor read-out speed is slow (rolling shutter effect) and you end up resorting to its noisy mechanical shutter with much lowered FPS like those found in a DSLR.
- Olympus E-M1 MKii has the 1st truly usable fully electronic shutter with a sensor read-out speed of 1/60s (prev E-M1 1/13s), zero wear and tear to the mechanical shutter which Nikon chose to leave out entirely in their recent Z9. I set fully electronic shutter (Silent Shutter in Olympus speak) on my E-M1 Mkii as default.
- Lower bit depth is commonly applied to increase sensor read-out speed hence it’s misleading to mention sensor read-out speed without indicating related bit depth applied. Existing Nikon Z6ii and Z7ii, Sony A7IV and A7RIV are all no faster than 1/20s, at 12bit the Z7ii manages 1/30s compared to the Canon EOS R5 and R6 at around a much more usable 1/60s 12bit. Same thing can be said about FPS and the related bit depth applied.
- What that typically always do get a lot of mention; the gazillion FPS and AF points as headline numbers with no mention of related bit-depth or sensor read-out speed etc. While good to have, the overabundance of FPS and AF points are of little relevance for general use not involving fast-paced sports or birds in flight genres where fast sensor read-out speed is essential. All the superfluous amounts of FPS and AF points are useless if the sensor read-out speed is slow. In addition, mirrorless on-sensor PDAF is typically not as effective as the separate PDAF module of a DSLR.
DSLR separate PDAF module
==========================
Unless Mirrorless ILC come with stacked sensors, their AF tracking performance cannot match those of a DSLR thanks to its dedicated PDAF module. This is regardless of how many gazillion AF points the mirrorless sensor has, cross-type or not. The PDAF sensor module have entire pixels dedicated to the sole task of performing PDAF computations and do not suffer any loss of light from Bayer/Color filters like PDAF on sensor which can only occupy a small section of a each pixel that has other metering and WB computations to deal with thus slowing down the entire process. Mirrorless cameras with stacked sensors are still very expensive.
IBIS
====
- Read the fine print, one brand’s 5 stops stabilization is not the same as another brand’s 5 stops. This must be considered in conjunction with the IBIS' maximum effective focal length which is only mentioned in the finest of fine print, blink and you'll miss it and camera reviews typically chose to be silent on this.
- Telephoto focal lengths.
Lens IS is more effective than Camera IBIS at longer focal lengths but synced Lens IS with Camera IBIS is best.
- Lens and body synced IS.
Nikon Z9 is essentially 5 stops at 70mm but with "Synchro VR" it’s 6 stops at 200mm with selected lenses but yet it’s only 3 stops (and only 3 out of 5 axis) with F mount lenses. The OM-1 is 8 stops at equivalent 300mm. Sony is now the only brand without synced lens and body IS.
RAW vs JPEG level improvements
=============================
Finally, it’s now important in the mirrorless era to differentiate real RAW improvements from improvements at the JPEG level only which is merely skin-deep. Camera makers already hit the wall with sensor tech some years back and are now resorting to baked-in softwares to sell perceived improvements. Fact is, the same or better improvements can be obtained from competent post-processing without the need to buy the latest camera at full retail price.

The parish church of St Nicholas at Fyfield, Essex, consists of nave, north and south aisles, chancel, central tower, north porch and organ chamber. The nave and the first stage of the tower are mostly flint rubble with some Roman brick. The second stage of the tower is largely of red brick and there is a timber belfry. The exterior of the church is mostly covered with cement, now in poor repair, and numerous buttresses of the 18th and 19th centuries show where weaknesses have developed. The building differs in several respects from the type of parish church found in the area. The 12th-century plan with the tower standing 'cathedralwise' is unusual, and it is evident that large sums were spent on improvements during the 13th and 14th centuries.

The nave was built in the 12th century. The walling at each end of the two arcades is 3 ft. thick and is evidently the original 12th-century work. The lower part of the tower is of the same date, including the large stair turret on the north side reaching to the second stage. The stair has a circular newel of Roman brick and there are arches of Roman brick to the round-headed windows in the south and west walls of the second stage of the tower. The former window has been blocked by brickwork and the latter opens into the roof space above the nave.
About 1220 a north aisle of three bays was added to the nave. The pointed arches are of two chamfered orders and rest on circular columns with moulded capitals and bases. Attached half-columns form the responds against the ends of the 12th-century walls. In the middle of the 13th century the south aisle was added. This is similar in general arrangement to the north aisle but the arches are moulded and the supporting columns are octagonal. The single-light window in the west wall is probably of the 13th century but its four-centred head was added later. There are traces of colour decoration of uncertain date on both arcades.
The chancel was built about 1330-40. The date can be fixed approximately by the detail of the interior. All the windows are of the 14th century and have moulded labels and head stops. The tracery of the east window has been replaced, but the fine carving of the jambs and rear arch survives. Between the windows in the south wall are stepped sedilia of three bays. The arches are cinquefoiled and between them are octagonal shafts of Purbeck marble. The moulded label has four carved head stops, one head wearing a mitre and another a curious pointed head-dress terminating in a flower. In the spandrel above a third head are three balls carved in relief; it has been suggested that these are the emblems of St. Nicholas.
East of the sedilia is a piscina of similar detail and further east there is a credence with one jamb cut off by the east wall of the chancel. Below the chancel is a vault which has a wide arched opening externally under the east window. This opening was sealed during the restoration of 1893 but one account of the church suggests that it was formerly pierced with quatrefoil openings, possibly for the viewing of relics. Another account, given in 1898 by the then rector, the Revd. L. Elwyn Lewis, referred to the existence of arcading internally below the east window.
The arch between the tower and the nave is of the 14th century, much restored. The north porch retains moulded timbers of the late 14th century and a pointed timber arch of which the spandrels were probably once filled with tracery.
Some years before 1768 part of the tower fell, perhaps after being struck by lightning. Before the end of the 18th century the second stage was largely rebuilt in red brick and a window was inserted on the north side. Above the brickwork is a hipped roof, above which is a square weather-boarded belfry with ball finials at the corners. There is a small boarded spire. The west wall of the nave may have been rebuilt in the 18th century.
In the first half of the 19th century a vestry was formed by extending the north aisle eastward as far as the stair turret of the tower. In 1853 the church was restored and in 1875 tracery was inserted in the east window at the expense of W. S. Horner. In 1893 £1,300 was spent on restoration. Some blocked windows were uncovered and a new west door and window inserted.
Both the tower arches were largely rebuilt and the chancel roof may have been reconstructed at the same time. The oak reredos and chancel seating were installed, the oak coming from St. Paul's, Knightsbridge. The seating in the nave is also of the late 19th century, incorporating some 16th-century moulded rails. During the incumbency of the Revd. L. Elwyn Lewis (1895-1905), who held high church views, a surpliced choir was started and the old organ was moved from the west end of the church into the vestry. In 1901 a new organ was installed against the north wall of the tower, largely at the rector's own expense. The vestry is now an organ chamber.
The square font bowl of Purbeck marble is of the late 12th century. Two of the sides are decorated with recessed arcading and the other two have a central fleur-de-lis flanked by vine leaves. The oak screen between the nave and the tower was carved by A. J. B. Challis of Clatterford Hall in 1914. The pulpit is of the same date.
There are six bells, all modern or recast. Under the organ on the north side of the chancel there is said to be a slab bearing the indent of a foliated cross, flanked by square pennons or axes. There is a tradition that this covers the headless body of Henry, Lord Scrope, beheaded in 1415. Also in the chancel are some 18th century floor slabs with shields of arms to members of the Pochin family and to one of the Beverley family. There are also several 18th-century slabs to the Collins family of Lampetts and to the Brands of Herons.
SL continues to be a special place where I can get inspired by others. Their talent, their personalities, their strength and their weaknesses as well.

The Tsninsky Canal is a canal on the Tsna River in Vyshny Volochyok (Tver Oblast), part of the Vyshny Volochyok Waterway System (a waterway in Russia with a watershed near the town of Vyshny Volochyok, the oldest artificial waterway in Russia, linking the central part of the country and the Volga region with the new capital, St. Petersburg, and solving the food supply issue for St. Petersburg in the 18th and 19th centuries).
Soon after the construction of the Gagarin Canal, which connected the Volga and Baltic basins, weaknesses in the new system became apparent.
In 1719, a self-taught hydraulic engineer, Serdyukov, a Novgorod merchant of Mongolian descent, began work to improve the waterway. To bypass the winding branch of the swift Tsna, a 1,280-meter-long channel was dug in 1722 to straighten the river from southeast to northwest, named the Tsninsky Canal. A lock was constructed at its exit. During subsequent large-scale work on the water system in the 1810s, an additional half-lock was built on the canal 800 meters upstream from the previous lock. This helped maintain the water level and ensure safe passage of ships. At the same time, the canal walls were lined with granite, and its width became 10 fathoms. By the early 20th century, the canal's depth was 4-5 arshins. In the 1920s, when navigation ceased and the canal was used only for timber rafting, the locks were rebuilt into bayslots. The canal and its embankments are designated cultural heritage sites.

I am so grateful to be included in this wonderful campaign. Thank you Lawrence 💛. When I saw it was about honouring both the beauty and strength of women I was hooked! This is something I am really passionate about. Breaking down the stigma and misconceptions of what it means to be a strong, empowered woman. What it means to honour the blood and tears of our sisters who rose before us and pathed the way through the women's rights movement. Who wore the badge of feminist with pride.
We now find ourselves in a time when feminism is a dirty word, when it conjures up thoughts of women who go around breaking the balls of men with their hairy armpits and masculine ways. This is a deliberate falsification of reality. It is my dream for women to stand in solidarity with one another, in every corner of the globe, to keep striving for equity and respect in every facet of life. Both at home and in the corporate and political arenas. But to be able to do so without giving up our most beautiful quality which is our femininity as that is where our greatest strengths are found.

Men are often reluctant to see a doctor for various reasons, ranging from cultural expectations to personal beliefs about masculinity. Many men have been socialised to prioritise toughness and self-reliance, viewing seeking medical help as a sign of weakness. Additionally, fear of receiving bad news or a diagnosis of a serious illness can lead to avoidance of medical appointments.
Moreover, there's a stigma associated with discussing health concerns openly, especially when it comes to sensitive topics like mental health or reproductive issues. These factors combined contribute to the reluctance among men to seek medical care, often resulting in delayed diagnoses and poorer health outcomes.
I see strength and weakness at once. I see a strong human-made structure that constrains even nature's strongest winds, but is filled with cracks and imperfections. At the same time, I bear witness to the the undeserving warning and caution that we humans now surround ourselves with (even outdoors). Meanwhile, nature perseveres; it grows where it wants, without regard for the wishes of man.
