Geraldton wax ( Chamelaucium uncinatum) is a beautiful flowering Australian native shrub that brings colour to gardens from late winter to spring. As the common name suggests, Geraldton wax comes from Western Australia.

Peafowl wander freely at the Brookfield Zoo, seemingly unconcerned with the various admirers. Such amazing colors!
I know peacock colors are kind of cliche, but I really like the lines that the peacock's head/neck make with the spectacular feathers.

Stepped out after sunset and was surprised at the coolness in the air after a warm humid day. Then saw my favorite model in crescent form, in the growth, Waxing Crescent....summer has begun. Love the two dots of light off the bottom crescent!
Malvaviscus is distinguished by having auriculate petals and red, fleshy fruits. The generic name is referring to the mucilaginous sap produced by members of the genus. The fruit can be used to make jelly or syrup. Both the fruit and flowers are used to make herbal teas.

On [December 31, 2022] the Moon was in a Waxing Gibbous phase. Visible through most of the night sky setting a few hours before sunrise. This phase is when the moon is more than 50% illuminated but not yet a Full Moon. The phase lasts about 7 days with the moon becoming more illuminated each day until the Full Moon. During a Waxing Gibbous the moon rises in the east in mid-afternoon and is high in the eastern sky at sunset. The word Gibbous first appeared in the 14th century and has its roots in the Latin word "gibbosus" meaning humpbacked.
