It's Expedition Time on #timextuesday with a semi-vintage T49261 from fifteen or so years ago paired with a colorful BluShark NATO-style strap.

I wore the dark dial version of this watch way back in the day when I lived a one watch lifestyle. I lost that watch due to a spring bar failure on a beach, and off and on I've been looking for another one ever since.

I've never felt quite satisfied with any watch I've owned since losing that "SHOCK RESISTANT" Expedition with Indiglo on a beach in Hawaii, which has contributed to my owning way too many watches today. I really need to thin the herd; stop thinking about all the MONEY I'm going to LOSE if I do so and just cut some stuff loose.

I found this near-pristine example (pardon the dust flecks -- that's my fault) on eBay, needing a battery, for $26. It arrived, I popped off the back, replaced the battery, and the watch worked! Even more surprising, I managed to re-install the back plate securely without breaking anything!

Could this be my ONE WATCH again? Well, I tell ya, it could be close! It offers really good at-a-glance visibility even with the white -on-cream hands / dial combo. The date window is big enough I can see it with my regular eyeglasses and don't need to switch to my close-up readers. The Indiglo light-up feature is epic in full-dark. The watch wears extremely comfortably on the NATO-style strap. (I put it on a NATO-style strap right away -- I'm not going to lose another watch due to a rusted-out spring bar.)

The only minor drawbacks I can see are, I've become accustomed to the convenience of a day-date display; and then there's the battery thing. How often will this watch require a battery change? I don't want to be stressing over changing the battery every time I light up the Indiglo. Changing the battery was easy enough, but each time the caseback is opened the water resistance is increasingly compromised.

This new-old Timex Expedition probably won't become my ONE WATCH, but I'm definitely gonna thin the herd.

Ironically, or stupidly, I have a couple of new watches on the way in the post that I purchased before I had this retro-gem in-hand. Don't that just figure! At least one will be an immediate return. I'll have to see about the others -- will they "tick any boxes" that this one doesn't?

On the whole:

Cheap Timex = Game Changer! Which I'm happy about!
