This beauty arrived at my doorstep today. I have always wanted a Nomos and this one ticks that box and a few others: Firstly, It’s 1 of a limited edition of 175 in this Ziegelblau color composition made to commemorate 175 years of watchmaking history in Glashütte. Secondly, it’s my first German watch, which feels tardy given the deep respect I have for Germany and German-made objects after 12 years as a denizen of some of its coolest cities. Thirdly, it’s deliciously colorful yet bauhaus minimal in that parsimonious pastel way that only Nomos can pull off. The date wheel comes in that amazing creamy color that perfectly matches the chapter ring, almost to make the point that Nomos (and Glashütte watchmaking) are all about detail and care. It’s hand-wound, yes, but the decoration of the (in-house) movement punches above the price-tag and is fully visible through the caseback. My only real nitpick is perhaps the lack of a quick-set date: I do hate having to run the hour hand back and forth from 8pm to 2am to move the date wheel just one step.
