Somewhere on the border of straight panoramic imagery and a bit of Pano-Xtreme. The beauty of a dark, cloud-laden sky after a heavy summer rain was was too much to pass up, so I made this shot with as little "distortion" as possible. I wanted to keep the integrity of the scene, looking to warp it just a bit to give it a slightly Surreal quality.

I took this on the same day as my image "Transcendental." I was so happy to see rowers and a motor boat go by, to create these wonderful warped reflections and ripples. I had a hard time deciding whether to post the colour or the black and white, but as the colour is mostly shades of brown, b/w won this round.
This was taken before the major flooding we just had.

Another dip into the "Pano-Xtreme" format that I started working with in the Summer. The iPhone's panoramic function is used in an extreme 200 degree arc which warps the image, giving it a kind of Surreality.
Wide panos are hardly new, other artists have been using it extensively but my point of difference is that I also add a fair bit of photo manipulation to further "Surrealize" the image.
We had an extremely hot Summer ( 2016 ) here in Toronto, almost relentless. This day in August was so hot you very walked slowly, with the heat inducing an almost dreamlike state as you strolled along, taking as much time as it took to go anywhere at such a slow pace.

Through the sunroof of my son's pickup truck while moving through a holiday light display tunnel. Camera on a propped monopod with ball head and wired trigger release.
Xtreme panoramic photography, courtesy of Apple's iPhone 6. The incredibly SHARP resolution of the phone's camera inspired me to do more "Straight" photography with more of the everyday world as my subject. Yet my drive to experiment overrides everything and I think this branch of my work will be about that hairline balance between the everyday and the warping or stretching of that through panoramic, iPhone photography.
The radical curvature doesn't happen so much in this image but one look at the cars passing through the intersection lets one know immediately that SOME form of panoramic distortion is in effect. So the everyday takes on a more Surrealistic edge and what looks like a mundane street corner becomes something quite unusual. I like working this way.

Think out of the box!
Das ist das Ergebnis, der Challenge an mich selbst. Ich wollte mal anders an ein Resultat rangehen, als ich es gewohnt bin. Ich hab mich in letzter Zeit zu oft beim "knipsen" erwischt. Sicher, ich bin auch damit zufrieden. Nur gibt eine Kamera mehr her. Wann hab ich zuletzt das Stativ benutzt? Wann hatte ich zuletzt schwierige Lichtverhältnisse? Wann hab ich darüber wirklich nachdenken müssen, was ich tue? Wann hab ich zuletzt ein Foto gemacht, über das ich in anderen Feeds stolpern würde? Das alles wollte ich auf den Prüfstein stellen. Das alles gelingt mir nicht auf Anhieb. Dies ist für mich ein Reminder auf dem Weg, andere Wege zu beschreiten. Das werde ich nach und nach wiederholen, mir dafür bestimmte Motive überlegen. Ich bin gespannt auf mich selbst. :D
A warp drive is a theoretical superluminal spacecraft propulsion system in many science fiction works, most notably Star Trek and I, Robot by Isaac Asimov. A spacecraft equipped with a warp drive may travel at speeds greater than that of light by many orders of magnitude. In contrast to some other fictitious FTL technologies such as a jump drive, the warp drive does not permit instantaneous travel between two points, but rather involves a measurable passage of time which is pertinent to the concept. In contrast to hyperdrive, spacecraft at warp velocity would continue to interact with objects in "normal space." The general concept of "warp drive" was introduced by John W. Campbell in his 1931 novel Islands of Space

An piece in the ongoing project which uses extreme panoramic scanning to produce imagery that proposes mulit-directional simultaneity. Here 3 different directions, Left to Right, East, South and West appear to be one direction.
Formally, it's all about using the frame and the iPhone camera to create abstract composition. Light, direction, hierarchy in traditional senses are brought into a single view that relies on the sublimation of these as distinct qualities.
A fun way to see things.

Near the famous Orion nebula there's some fainter stuff that comes up in my wider field images that I thought would be cool to target. This is the area around NGC1999, and there are some pretty bright stars there too! 4 nights from about 11.30pm to 4:50 am, TAK FSQ106N telescope, QHY268M camera, Warpdrive Astro WD20 mount, Astronomik RGB filters, NINA and PHD camera control and guiding, processing in APP and PS.
A bit of macro fun again this morning, take one spiders web, add some morning dew, sunshine, a very shallow dof and some imagination…
This one makes me think of that bit in star trek when they use the Warp drive :)

This Yayoi Kusama installation called 'Gleaming Lights of the Souls' was one of the very last things we saw during our visit to the Louisiana Museum in Denmark. It's constructed in a small room big enough for only a few people to enter at a time, consequently queues can be quite long when the Museum is busy.
At least partly borne out of the difficulty of photographing the installation, I thought I'd try something a bit different for this shot so opted to sweep the camera round in an arc to deliberately create this abstract blur.

From the Louisiana Museum website : 'Gleaming Lights of the Souls by Yayoi Kusama is one of the most beloved pieces in the museum collection. The installation, dating from 2008, consists of a single space, four by four meters. The walls and ceilings are covered with mirrors; the floor is a reflecting pool; and you stand in the middle of the water on a platform.
Hanging from the ceiling above you are a hundred lamps that resemble glowing ping pong balls. These lamps change colour in a way that transport us into a special rhythm and pulse, almost as though we become one with the universe of the installation. Gleaming Lights of the Souls is a truly lyrical work of art in every sense.'

When doing astrophotography, sometimes got strange photos, UFO, weird objects. During long exposure time a lot of can happen. Tripod may move, focus of camera may change, etc. Sometimes you even not remember what happen and only see some strange result on photo. I started astrophotography in middle school with such weird photos. Photos had UFO, which I did not saw by naked eye. Probably it was reflection of car light but maybe not.
There is very close popular photo technic - Intentional Camera Movement. But I am talking about Unintentional Camera Movement. I give credit for such name UCM to Greg Adams
This is one of the photos from adventures in Bolivia. Photo was done in Salar de Uyuni. Interesting effect – looks like camera reached warp speed. No Idea how it happened, probably changed zoom.
I woke feeling so refreshed after a lovely long sleep. It was a glorious summer morning, and crystals on the window cast dancing rainbows in the den. I sat up and watched the sunrise over the hills, looking forward to my vacation. I felt I needed a holiday after my adventure across the multiverse.
'Are we going on a proper holiday?' Cashew asked, running into the den. He dragged a big heavy backpack across the floor. So large we could use it as a tent.
'By the Great Tree, what have you got in there?' Pistachio chuckled as Cashew threw random items in the backpack.
'Just a few things. We'll need them for our holiday,' Cashew said.
'What about this? We'll need plates and bowls and the gold plated cutlery, and . . . oh, yes, extra brushes for our fur in case we lose our main brush, and extra bottles for water, and . . . ' Seitan rambled, tossing items in the backpack too.
Cashew stumbled over Seitan's big holiday pile and laughed. Even he saw Seitan was trying to take too much. 'Hey. Maybe we should take the fridge as well. You never know,' he said.
'Are we taking the fridge on holiday with us?' Tofu asked, running into the den too. She was followed by Macadamia Redfox.
'Where are we going to put it? The fridge won't fit in the backpack,' Seitan said.
I laughed. I knew my sibling companions were being silly. There was no way we could fit a whole fridge crammed with food and drinks in the backpack too. Even a bigger-on-the-inside backpack like ours.
'We're not going on holiday-holiday. I'm having a staycation. It means we can explore areas close to our den. Like our favorite woods. We love going to the woods,' I said.
'Yes, like Penglais and Gogerddan and . . . ' Tofu frowned, staring over the hills in the distance. 'What about that place over there?'
'What, the farmer's field?' said Cashew. 'You want to chase sheep for your holiday?'
'No, but isn't the big tree in the field that way?' said Tofu. 'We always go to see that tree, but we never sit under it. Can we go and sit under that tree today?'
'Perhaps,' I said, because I wasn't sure. I had in mind to go to Penglais Woods first, and then go for a walk along the coast.
I suggested my plan to the others and they ruffled their noses at the idea.
'I thought we'd go somewhere different,' said Macadamia.
'So really we're going to do the same thing as we always do, but not cross to other dimensions or travel through time or get kidnapped by fairies or have to out prank a prankster god?' Cashew frowned.
'Kind of, but just relaxed. A leisurely walk and explore around the woods and coast,' I said. 'We can rest when we want and go where we want and come home when we want.'
'Yay!' said Tofu in a little dance. 'So we don't have to do chores today? Like cleaning the den.'
I looked around and saw our den was in a terrible mess. With crumpled blankets and even a dried leaf on the floor. I always preferred the den is kept neat and tidy. That way I can snuggle up when I come home.
'Maybe we should tidy up a little bit,' I said.
'No, maybe we can get a robot instead,' Macadamia said, twirling around the den. 'You know, like in those science fiction books and films. There's that gold robot in the film about the man with the light sword, and what's that other show about the android on the bridge of a spaceship? We can get one of those, but shaped like a wolf.'
'What, like robo-wolf?' Cashew chuckled. 'Robo-wolf the cleaning bot?'
'Yeah, why not?' Macadamia insisted.
It seemed like a great idea to begin with. A robot to do all the tidying up would be fantastic, but then I saw the big glaring problem.
'And where do you propose you store the robot when it has finished? We can't exactly snuggle with it in our den. It's made of metal,' I said.
'In the cupboard,' said Seitan.
'Great, so I open the cupboard and see a pair of glowing robot eyes staring back at me? No thanks!' I twitched my whiskers, shuddering at the thought. 'Come on, it won't take us long to tidy up. Then we can go outside.'
'But we're on vacation,' Tofu insisted.
I ended up having to tidy up myself, even though this was my little holiday. Thankfully it didn't take long. I made the bed and fluffed the pillows and picked up the dried leaf and I was finished.
'There,' I said, satisfied.
We got ourselves ready and jumped inside our flying car in minutes. We only took the bare essentials – just water and snacks and an extra SD-card for our camera. My siblings agreed to carry it all between them.
'Where to first?' Pistachio asked.
'Parc Penglais, and then the coast path to Constitution Hill and Clarach,' I said.
Seitan looked at me as she frowned. 'But, it is sunny today. Won't there be humans on the beaches?'
'Oh yes, Maisie, you know what humans are like. One glimpse of sunshine and they're all on the beach roasting themselves like potatoes in an oven,' said Cashew.
'We're not actually going to the beach,' I said, laughing. 'We're walking through the woods and then the coast path on the clifftop. We will stay away from the beaches and the humans.'
'Oh, goodie,' Tofu said, clapping her paws together in delight. 'I heard there's foxgloves on the clifftops.'
'There might be,' I said. Foxgloves were our favorite flowers. Seeing them always made us happy.
Pistachio touched a screen at the pilot seat, indicating Parc Penglais. Our car turned seagull and lifted off, wings sprouting either side. This way any humans watching would just see a seagull flying over their heads.
A flash and a jolt and immediately Penglais woods spread beneath us. We landed close to a golf course, our car still disguised as a seagull, and breathed in the fragrant woodland air.
'Great to see the new warpdrive works,' Pistachio said, tapping the hull of our seagull-car.
'What?' I gasped. 'You never told me you installed a warpdrive in our car? What if it went wrong and we ended up on Mars? Or worse . . . '
'Then I suppose we'd meet Martians on our holiday. Hey, do you think they have holidays on Mars?' Cashew quipped.
'There's no life on Mars now. It's extinct,' Seitan mumbled.
'There might be,' Cashew insisted. 'Yeah, and because of the low gravity they'll be taller and thinner and maybe they have these long antennae.'
'Eeeek!' Tofu screamed, pointing at a tree stump. 'I think we might be on Mars. Look, there's a Martian!'
'Maybe it's a Martian on holiday,' Cashew chuckled as we all ran over to investigate.
I peered over Tofu's shoulder and giggled. 'That's not a Martian. That's a snail,' I said.
My sibling companions laughed. Tofu hung her head.
'I might be a Martian in disguise,' she whispered.
'Well, maybe,' I sighed.
I had a feeling it was going to be one of those days. But it was fun to see my siblings enjoying themselves. Cashew decided to climb a tree, pretending to be a squirrel, while Tofu and Macadamia went out looking for foxgloves.
'They're all just stalks now,' Macadamia pouted.
We decided to turn it into a game. A see who can find the first foxgloves game. Within minutes my siblings ran around the woods and up and down the coastal path, counting how many foxglove they'd seen on their paws.
I found my own comfy spot sheltered by foxgloves, with wonderful views over the human town. A fresh sea breeze cooled my fur, and my whiskers twitched at the new scents of the coast.
'Finally I can relax for my holiday,' I whispered, curling up for a little snooze.
I spoke too soon. The moment I closed my eyes, Tofu started screaming again. Tofu, Cashew and Seitan came running over with a look of sheer terror on their faces.
'Maisie. Maisie. Come quick!' they said.
'Where's Pistachio and Macadamia? What's happened?' I asked, wondering if this was another prank.
'Pistachio and Macadamia are hiding in the orange hackweed flowers. Come quick, Maisie. Come. It's . . . It's . . . ' Tofu babbled.
'It's what?' I grumbled.
'We saw a cowboy in the woods,' said Seitan.
'Yeah, but a weird creature walked with him. The creature had the head of a horse and the body of a human,' Tofu said in a panic.
'A man with a horse's head,' Cashew added.
'Maybe they're Martians and they're invading,' Tofu said, grabbing my paws. 'Come on Maisie. Come quick.'
I ran back to the woods after them. It was definitely going to be one of those days.

Here is my contribution to my favorite holiday : SHIPtember.
The Maersk Highliner MkI is a supercapital sized freighter designed with versatility in mind. The giant cargo bay can hold anything up to frigate sized ships. The Dorsal Bay allows for easy manoeuvering of entering ships. It also features a compact refinery and several processing smart-hatches which can fill every compartment of the upper hull with any kind of resource, ore, fluid.
While very simple in design, this gigantic ship has been equipped with a dual state of the art Roll-Royce Warpdrive, allowing it to eco-efficiently travel great distances at very improved speeds compared to its ancestors.

Work this year was crazy so I had to build this thing in 5 days , while deviating from a completely different initial design. It was really intense and by the end , my back hurt like crazy. Some of you might have noticed this is an interpretation of Maersk's Triple E class vessel , with a simple, straight forward design , and state of the art engines. Obvious inspiration was also homeworld 2 crew transport ships.
The entire upper part is built with tiled stretched baseplates, and the lower part is a sturdy studs forwards brick wall that is strong enough for the upper baseplates to bend.
The entire , 184 studs long ship (about 150 cm) , is completely hollow and smooth inside which is something i'm very happy about.
It seperates in two clean parts for transport to various exhibitions this year.
In the future I will be making a 200+ studs long version (MkII) by adding roughly 20 studs in the middle.

I had a sensation of time lapse as this massive cloud formation lumbered overhead in the wake of a strong thunderstorm. It wasn't so much the speed of motion, but the feeling of inexorability. Sort of like standing on the banks of a rain swollen river, realizing that nothing is going to stop the water from going where it is going. The best time lapse videos always include something stationary to provide a point of reference. As I stood here, I realized I was the stationary object, at least for a few moments. There was an eerie quality to the whole experience. That feeling overcomes me sometimes when I realize that I am witnessing something that seems much larger than me, and particularly when I'm in some desolate location totally alone. It's exciting but simultaneously scary. The inevitable metaphor here was the passage of time, and it's becoming an ever increasing concern for me. Days pass into weeks, then months and it's all becoming a blur. Like when warp drive kicks in during a space film and the individual points of light emitted by stars become streaks. August was a prime example; it seems to me the shortest month. Due in part because its the last full month of summer and I realize that warm weather and the long daylight are slipping away. Another birthday looms around the corner, and they've become decidedly less celebratory and more worrisome. The moment of darkness (both in thought and reality) was broken as the clouds began to part to allow a glint of the setting sun. The contrast was exquisite.

first glance, it looks like a warp jump into deep space.
Stars stretching into lines, a dark center pulling everything inward like a black hole.
Then reality hits:
It’s just spaghetti waiting to become lunch.
I love how photography can transform ordinary things into something cosmic for a single moment. A kitchen becomes a galaxy. Pasta becomes light speed.
Sometimes the universe hides in the most everyday objects.
This is the classic, the origial U.S.S. Enterprise. A fine ship and design for a sixties TV show. Why they just didn't use this for the movie is beyone me...it is truly an icon. But I found a nicely detaile photo of the ship allowing me to draw the most detailed version up to this point.
Another main view of the Maersk Highliner MkI I built for SHIPtember 2015. You can see the very high-tech Dual Rolls-Royce Warpdrive that propells this thing and contrasts with the rather simple design of the rest of the ship.
I really wanted the warpdrive to have chimneys like contemporary container ships or even cruiseships. I think the sand blue turned out okay even tho it was a bit weird with all the azure at first.
I will get around to posting a closeup shot of the engines and the thrusters probably tomorrow.
Another thing you can see here is the little land pad with the two small hangar right above the main bay. This small hangar allows for personnal / crew shuttle to land and dock there; outside of the cargo area, for obvious insurance reasons.
I really can't get enough of these. I dug this one up off the hard drive from a great day out in the forest with Blue. Anyone that would have walked by at the time seeing us rocking on our heels shooting these for a half hour would have thought we were crazy. Blue is not crazy.
