Macro Mondays - Screw

Happy Macro Monday everyone.

This screw is 2.5cm long.

Whether you call it an anchor, anchor bolt, wall plug, screw anchor, or whatever, it sure comes in handy when you need to fasten something using a bolt or screw into materials such as drywall, bricks, and concrete!

Daring to be different, standing out from the crowd. One rawl plug has decided it doesn't want to look like all the others! Of course there could be more to this story. This could be Planet Rawl Plug where the Rawl-plugians are preparing an invasion force. Their three blue pod plugs are ready to launch and their newly designed black deep space exploration plug is also being prepared for launch. What you might not know is that they invaded Planet Earth many years ago and can be found everywhere. Although harmless and very useful they are the most successful alien that lives in peace among us all without anyone noticing but that's another story :)

HMM!!

The innards of an electrical wall plug. Just the fuse and connecting metal - together with a small piece of electrical cable. I thought the bits looked rather like a cannon ready to be fired - so I added a lens flare as a bit of fun ;o)

There's a shot with the 2x3" credit card measure in the first comment field. The entire assembly is about 2 or 3cm.

Seven consecutive days during the growth and first bloom of a Lithops flower bud.

See the flower in full bloom:

The opening/closing of the flower seems to be sunshine-activated. Since after the first two openings there was really bad weather for days, I had to stop the time lapse because the flower did not open again and I did not want to wear out my DSLR with 144 photos a day while nothing happening in front of the lens.

Successful uploading this video to flickr was pain, since flickr always gives you a "Bonk!" message after you have uploaded the whole file without success, not telling whether the codec was wrong or resolution, framerate or whatever.

Viewing a Lithops flower for twenty-four hours, from midnight to midnight.

You may notice the huge crack at the bottom of the flower stem - this probably was the bad result of watering the plant during bud growth.

I got this power cord with my Thinkpad X41 AC adapter. Someone wasn't thinking when they specified it. The wallplug end has a polarized NEMA 1-15 type A connector, normally used for equipment that might distinguish between live and neutral, like a table lamp. However, the adapter end has an unpolarized IEC 60320 type C7 connector.

The AC adapter is (correctly) agnostic to the polarity, and doesn't care which way the C7 end is plugged in. So wtf were they thinking, forcing the user to get it wrong half the time when they try to plug in to the wall?

Nothing a moment with a Dremel tool can't fix but, really, what were they thinking?

This week's assignment was to pick a small site and show details of the site; sort of an acheaological dig. I decided to photograph the Newspace site itself.

A photo from 2003 of Pete baby-sitting my nephew and niece from the UK (I was in Japan) on a generation 1 iSight. Re-found this picture and decided to post it.

installed on a wall bracket.

The fourth image of my '7 day' task. I have had these on my window sill for a week now. I bought them to hang a wall hanging I received as a gift from India. I have decided I will at some point open a business that sells wall plugs individually. I hate buying a bunch just to use two, then throwing them away because I know I wont need them again for another couple of years, during which having these lying around would bug me.
