Wallhanging made for my partner in the 4SQS5 Monochromatic Challenge. The blossoms are white fabric, heavily qulited in pink to get the colour and stay within the swap guidelines. The blossom in the water has a second, 3-dimensional layer, and the inner ripples have small crystals. The inspiration was a gentle breeze blowing blossoms into a serene, secluded pond. March 2009.

My mother at her first show of her wallhangings...not the best quality image, but the only one I have of her beginnings as a new and sought after artist.

I finished last details in three of four wallhangings I have been working on for several months yesterday, so that I could photograph them. . Later I'll post details and sizes for the curious and similarly needle- addicted amongst you... and decide on titles.

The first one is the complete remake of a piece I first made 9 years ago....it was fading and sagging...and now I like it again.

The other two are smaller pieces in which I have used a lot of bits and pieces of found objects from my walks, and from hidden corners in my piles of odds and ends, and broken bits...and junk carefully presented to me by some thoughtful friends.. ( a third piece still needs some problems worked out...and isn't ready for the camera...)

These activities keep me busy, and off the street for a while....and happy with the fun !

Excerpt from the plaque:

The five bouquets in the centre of this wall hanging have been traced to five engravings from the Twelve Months of Flowers: March, April, June, July, and August. Each bouquet was modified by replacing the urn with a ribbon, flipping it, altering flower colours, and adjusting the flower positions to make it rectangular. Flowers from each bouquet appear in the border.

Enjoy the day all.

Wall Hanging Quilting by Patricia .

West Coast dancer with seagulls A wallhanging by Jane Sartorelli, who was also my mother...we were so lucky..always surrounded as children by creation going on, no matter what the materials (most of them scrounged when we were young...my father came home one day and said Jane, where's the fence?..(she had taken it down and joined the boards together to do a large painting because she could only afford paints and not canvas). When she grew older, her work turned to fibre arts..this is an example of one of my favorites. She used themes based on her interests, reading and contact with people of many cultures to create her work.

Yay! Finished with the top. Now to decide how to quilt it. I'll probably bind in a brown dot, why throw a solid in there now.

This little quilt has so many memories in it. Bits and pieces of many other quilts and projects. Thanks for the challenge, Melly & me. It's been fun. I taught my quilt class the block and I'll post any of their pictures as they make them.

Giant wall hanging revealed.

A beautiful wall hanging depicting the triumph of good over evil decorates the wall of Spituk Gompa during the Gustor festival, Leh, Ladakh. When we first got to the festival the hanging was covered with a saffron cloth still visible at the top of the hanging and the hanging was revealed at the beginning of the activities. The top figure likely represents Sonam Gyatso the 3rd Dalai Lama from the time of the founding of the Spituk Gompa. He is revered in many of the Gelug'pa (Yellow Hat) monasteries such as Spituk Gompa.

This is a close-up of Dorothy from my "There's no place like home" wall hanging made from patterns from several of Kay Mackenzie's books.

I found this wall hanging in the hallway of a retirement home, where we were visiting my mother-in-law. I liked it, and it is very decorative, so this was taken for 117 pictures in 2017, #84 Decorative.

It was at a store, showing some birthday ornaments options. I just loved the wallhanging!

Just getting this prize-winning quilted wallhanging ready for an exhibition, so thought that I would share it with you, my Flickr friends. It is constructed from cotton fabrics and cotton, rayon, & polyester threads using the techniques of applique & thread painting. :)

This is another curious feature of the Velvet Room, whose walls are hung with Genoese velvet purchased in the 1730s and sent to the 2nd Earl of Lichfield by his brother, Admiral Lee. The designs represent the Hindu god Shiva. This was originally the state bedroom, with bed hangings to match. Apparently they underwent conservation by the Royal School of Needlewotk in 1999,

A4 sized wallhanging which I made for a swap. Shadow appliqué, hand quilted, hand embroidered. All of which I tackled for the first time on this project.

Based on a section of Gustave Klimt's Tree of Life painting.

A year collaborative project is finished and ready to hang on a wall. My palette was reds, but I buried one orange piece inside, totally surrounded by red. These are tiny pieces that accumulate in my scrap bin. Nothing delights me more than sewing these 'bits' together to make new fabric. The overall measurements are 35" x 37"....#2016project#collaborative#amycowen#red

’Rosie the Footballer by Su_G': Celebrating the achievement of USA women's football in reaching a landmark equal pay settlement with US Soccer. My entry in Spoonflower's 'International Women’s Day Wall Hangings' Design Challenge. Truly, every day from now on, on the football field, as well as in Spoonflower, "may as well be International Women’s Day!" as the design brief says. Ink pen on paper, referencing that well known icon of women's work from the war years: 'Rosie the Riveter'. It could be Rosie's great-grand-daughters playing football (soccer) and getting paid properly for it in the future.
