My Hibiscus plant is starting to flower. I sure wish the flower lasted more than a day, but that one day is sure beautiful:)
This is the place in Olympia I really like to photograph. I took so many pictures of this old Sandman. This time it was windy and cloudy. Sometimes the water is very calm. One and the same place, but always different.
U28B 5506 waits for its crew to take its train east.
Othello was at the east end of the Coast Division Electrification and beginning of the non electrified gap to Avery, Idaho .
The wire above the train had been dead since 1973 and the Rocky Mountain Division electrification ended in 1974.

The flag of Norway adorns these steps that lead down to downtown Poulsbo Washington which was settled by a Norwegian in the 1880’s and then became a destination landing spot for Scandinavian immigrants since, referred to as little Norway, it is a charming little town with a delightful downtown with much Norwegian influence. It was named Poulsbo after a Norwegian village of the same name as the Olympic mountain range and the Puget Sound reminded the settlers of the fjords of Norway. My husband and I traveled to WA and BC to see eagles, but we hardly saw any eagles in WA. We met a local man who told us about a field where we were sure to see owls and his directions did not disappoint! This little fellow greated us on the sign post while many of the owls were pretty out of reach for my camera. When he left the perch to catch a vole, he went and hid it under his body to eat in the reeds.
With an H1 painted Dash 9 leading, the G HVRKAH9 18A goes into the hole at Skamania to let Amtrak 28 by. Up front in the consist is a string of gleaming new BNSF grain hoppers.
While editing this shot of a Common Grackle, my first thought was of phrase that my granddaughter said often while in her two’s. When she needed you to repeat what you had said she would pivot in your direction, tighten her brow and sweetly ask “Wa-you-say,” as if it were a single word. This phrase made us laugh and warmed our hearts every time! I often thought it should be her Indian name…if she were Indian.
Now that she is a much more mature three, she has refined her speech and I haven’t heard it for a while. I have no doubt that my wife and I will use it the rest of our lives.
