I'm reposting this photo so I can let you all know that the weather forecast, if correct, should lead to spectacular waves at Porthcawl tomorrow morning (Monday) and for once I'm going to be able to make it. Winds will be gusting up to 80mph and the almost 10 metre high tide is at 06:03 though dawn is at 07:47, so not perfect, but the chance of getting a sunrise through crashing waves should not be missed. There will be a lot of rain, but I am hopeful for the odd break in the cloud. As always, anybody who does go down there needs to make themselves aware of the dangers of coastal photography during storms, be careful out there!

In the Fomin Botanical Garden there are about 65 different types of magnolias (300 trees), but it is the white one that blooms first.
One of the strange ironies of the Canadian Rockies lies in the naming of one of the most, if not THE most gorgeous lakes in the Canadian Rockies. "Maligne" in French can translate to "devilish", "malicious" and "diabolical", or maybe even "wicked." It can also translate to "keen" or "sharp", but that's not what the men who gave the nearby river its name were intending. It seems that the French fur traders had such a hard time navigating the nearby river that they named it "Maligne" in disgust, before seeing the glorious lake ahead.
Regardless, the name stuck. As I was sifting through my shots from our trip, this one in particular seemed to capture the spirit of the name of the lake as this "ghost busters" sky rolled in while we were waiting to board the boat to Spirit Island. It was almost as if you would expect to see the face of Voldemort coming out of those clouds at any moment.
Shortly after taking this shot, we were headed toward that last patch of blue as we motored our way across the lake toward Spirit Island. Before we left though, I took one last look at this sky and it wasn't hard to believe that there were days when this lake could easily be perceived as "wicked."

If we’re FB friends you’ll know that we were held hostage in our bungalow by the chief monkey (not this guy) who menaced us indoors when we got back to find a troop of White-faced Capuchins lazing in the trees right by our deck. I only had my long lens and couldn’t fit the whole family in but each time I tried to peep out the door he leapt onto the railing and bared his teeth at me. We watched them quietly from indoors while the scary monkey boss banged on the window then peed down it. They were here first after all.
My hometown Schuders is located in the Swiss Alps near the Austrian border. On the way to the village you pass by the Salginatobelbrücke, a historical bridge built in 1930, designed by Swiss civil engineer Robert Maillart. The reinforced concrete arch bridge was declared an International Historic Civil Engineering Landmark. I went into the bridge; this is the view facing the rather steep exit.
I processed a balanced, a paintery, and a photographic HDR photo from three RAW exposures, blended them selectively, carefully adjusted the curves, and desaturated the image. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

Aquesta casa és protagonista de una de les més efimeres però conegudes d'aquestes escenes, ja que representa la casa on va passar els seus primers mesos en Harry Potter, i especialment, on els seus pares foren assassinats per Lord Voldermort.

There are many film locations in the village of Lacock, but this is one of the best known, although the scene is brief indeed.
This house by the village church is the location of the first house of Harry Potter as a child, and specially the place where his parents where murdered by Lord Voldemort.

I always seem to put the cart before the horse, this is taken an hour or more before the previous two images
Since we're currently in a national museum, I also have a photo from another one, namely the one in Ayutthaya.
Here, as in the one in Bangkok, you can see countless Buddha statues from the last 1000 years.
This one is the only one I photographed because I liked both the depiction and the lighting so much.
It shows Buddha, along with a kind of hood made up of seven snakes.
These snakes represent Naga, a protective deity from Indian mythology.
When I read that, I was reminded of Voldemort's snake from Harry Potter, which is named Nagini. Doesn't that almost sound like a nickname for Naga? Interesting, isn't it?
Weil wir uns gerade in einem Nationalmuseum befinden, habe ich noch eine Aufnahme aus einem anderen, nämlich aus dem von Ayutthaya.
Hier kann man, wie in dem von Bangkok auch, unzählige Buddha Statuen aus den letzten 1000 Jahren besichtigen.
Diese hier ist die Einzige, von der ich ein Foto gemacht habe, weil mir sowohl die Darstellung als auch die Beleuchtung so gut gefallen haben.
Sie zeigt Buddha, zusammen mit einer Art Kapuze, welche aus 7 Schlangen besteht.
Diese Schlagen stellen Naga, eine Schutzgottheit aus der indischen Mythologie dar.
Als ich das gelesen habe, ist mir die Schlange von Voldemort aus Harry Potter eingefallen, welche den Namen Nagini trägt. Klingt das nicht fast wie ein Kosename für Naga. Ist schon interessant oder ?

My apologies to all Harry Potter fans! Lord Voldemort made me do it!
We went on a road trip to Northern California. Traveling north on Hwy 101 we stopped many times to marvel at majestic redwood trees, which grow in abundance in that region. We stopped at the Williams Grove Day Use Area near Myers Flat. A redwood forest is quite dark, even on a sunny day.

I have a keen interest in the araneophagic family Mimetidae and this one definitely peaked my interest with its abdomen showing an uncanny resemblance to Voldemort........."I'll get you Harry Potter"

I'm not the first to do it, but I think K's (Voldemort?) torso with the white collar does a decent purist impression of his fur collar.
Light grey might've been more accurate for Deckard's torso, but I didn't like it matching his hair, so here we are.
Functional doors! Well kind of. As it stands, a piece must be removed and reapplied to change the door's position. I have my eyes set on some wedge plates to fix this though. I just need to order the parts for that and possibly some parts to make the door a little more more screen-accurate.

Almost a series of undead warriors; the female assassin in the center isn't quite there but I really liked combing the red, black gold. The golden Voldemort head might've been nice there but I don't have one.
We went hiking at Point Lobos, located on the California coast just south of Carmel-By-The-Sea. This state park has quite unique features. The most unusual one are green algae on cypress trees called Trentepholia that have a bright orange look!

Richard and Jon recently did a reading of DOG DAY AFTERNOON, written by Stephen Adly Guirgis, at the Ojai Playwright's Conference.

Yes, this was taken in the potions room.
We went hiking at the El Corte de Madera Creek Preserve, located at the skyline of the San Francisco Peninsula. At one point we passed a big rock called the Tafoni Sandstone Formation. The sandstone has interesting erosion patterns.
The erosion happens in two phases, chemical and physical. The chemical phase occurs in winter, when slightly acidic rain from atmospheric carbon dioxide soak into the rock. This water remains in the rock and dissolves some of the sandstone. Then, in summer, the rock slowly dries out, and the water containing dissolved calcite flows towards the surface and deposits the calcite cement. This process hardens the outer crust, and weakens the inner rock.
The physical erosion of the rock happens when windblown debris, passing animals, falling rocks, etc, crack the hard crust. Once a hole is formed, the weaker sandstone inside is exposed to weather and erodes more, which results in bigger holes.
