“Public spaces have been essential to my work for many years, because they have this tremendous capacity to connect people not only with art, but also with the great architecture that surrounds it, and with one another,” said Jaume Plensa. “When Stephen Ross asked me to create a new, large-scale sculpture for the lobby of 30 Hudson Yards, I said yes immediately. The eleven spheres that make up Voices are composed of letters from eight different alphabets, to inspire people with the idea that while we come from many places and many cultures, we are here as one community.”
We were out exploring with some friends who came for a visit when late in the day, we were visiting the Pender Harbour area.
"Oh, look at this", came the voice from the back seat of our car. The sun was low on the horizon and it was late afternoon. The voice noticed the cove we had entered, and the way the light was affecting the area. I stopped the car and said, "I am going to take a few pics".
We all got out of the car and mused about enjoying the scene in front of us. "Over here", said the voice. "You can get right down to the water", it continued. Sure enough, in place of mulling about the thorny rose bushes that guarded entrance, there was a way down to the waters edge. After setting up on this colorful place, Kayakers were on their way into my image. So, I waited until they were in the right spot and captured the scene. Thanks voice!

Voices of stone - One of the more solitary megaliths of the Ring of Brodgar sat under a dramatic cirrus laden summer sky.
27 stones remain from the original 60 vertical or standing stones of the ring, constructed circa 2500 BC with sockets and stumps of the missing stones clearly visible around the ring. Situated on an isthmus between the Lochs of Stenness and Harray, close to the Standing Stones of Stenness the area is littered with Neolithic features such as burial chambers and cairns.
One cannot fail to wonder of the history of this ancient landscape and the stories and voices hidden in the past.
