Rebecca is vocalist and trumpeter and performed in a back patio of 'Pamenar' which seats about 30 people (uncomfortably 😄) Michael is Rebecca's long time partner, so I purposely included him in the photo. Kensington Jazz Festival was back after forced hiatus, the attendance was about 60% of previous years, but the concerts were 100% wonderful.

Learning of Christine McVie’s passing, I decided to put on some Fleetwood Mac this afternoon. The Mrs. and I enjoyed many an evening dancing to their music back in the day : )

"Over My Head" is a soft rock song performed by British-American rock band Fleetwood Mac. The song was written by group keyboardist and vocalist Christine McVie. "Over My Head" was the band's first single to reach the Billboard Hot 100 since "Oh Well", ending a six-year dry spell on the American charts.

Christine Anne McVie (12 July 1943 – 30 November 2022) was an English musician and songwriter. She was principally known as a vocalist and keyboardist with the band Fleetwood Mac.

As a member of Fleetwood Mac, McVie was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and received the Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music in 1998.

The White-breasted Nuthatch

The largest nuthatch, this is still a small bird with a large head and almost no neck. The tail is very short, and the long, narrow bill is straight or slightly upturned.

White-breasted Nuthatches are agile birds that creep along trunks and large branches, probing into bark furrows with their straight, pointed bills. Like other nuthatches, they often turn sideways and upside down on vertical surfaces as they forage. They don’t lean against their tails the way woodpeckers do.

In winter, White-breasted Nuthatches survive by staying in mixed flocks and using caching to have a steady supply of food. These birds join foraging flocks led by chickadees or titmice, perhaps partly because more eyes in a group make food easier to find and predators easier to spot. The winter feeder watcher may notice that male White-breasted Nuthatches can be rude, by human standards, pushing females aside at a platform full of bird seed. And nuthatches may steal from each other’s caches, so they tend to fly off in opposite directions from a feeder to avoid leading an onlooking bird to their secret stashes of seeds.

Last night I had the pleasure of working with the soulful vocalist, Melanie Moore.

A few quick pics I took of Sandra during our sound check before our concert at The Mesa Jazz and Blues Theater in Mesa, Arizona.

Searching for the source of loud melodies from treetops in Melbourne, I found this bird.

A Yellow-throated Vireo singing his little heart out. My first time to photograph one of these Llittle beauties. It has been a season of firsts!

Yellow-throated Vireos are early spring migrants that travel from their wintering grounds in Central and South America.

In Montreal they have several jazz bands entertaining the crowds in the afternoon, before the stage acts starts. This year, Montreal based 'The Early Jazz Band' was one group I managed to see and really enjoyed. 'The Early Jazz' takes their repertoire from the New Orleans swing of the 1920s, 1930s-1940s. Pure fun. I seen them first time, but one of Toronto's saxophone/clarinet musician, who comes to Montreal every year same time as me, played with few of them in Toronto. Jean-Sébastien Leblanc - clarinet is their leader and Dominic Desjardins - banjo/vocals is core member of the group. Jonathan Gagné – drum and Mathieu Roberge – double bass performed on this day.

Amazing how these birds are so brilliantly colored on their face, throat, and breast, yet be so well camouflaged on the rest of their body.

I followed this individual around for about half an hour. It sure was vocal!

Andrew Scott is a professor at Humber College and York University. At both institutions, he was also a student at one time. This was the first time, I had seen him play. Having a teaching job, he can choose when he plays. Andrew Scott trio included Jon Meyer -bass and Amanda Tosoff-piano. Taylor Maslin (a recent graduate from Humber College) joined them on the second set on sax. 'La Rev', a Mexican Restaurant, is popular with jazz lovers and the food is excellent there. Later in the set, an excellent vocalist, who was in the audience, also joined the band. Dionne Taylor was sitting next to me, but I almost did not recognize her, as she drastically changed her hairstyle.

There was a legendary musician in Toronto by the name of Jeff Healey. Mike Daley is now also almost legendary guitar player (and vocalist), but he played a second guitar in Jeff's band.

Jeff died young at 41 (2008), of Sarcoma cancer. He was blind since he was just 1 year old, but was a super talented musician. He loved traditional jazz from 1920s-40s and had a long running program on radio. He had a record collection of more then 30,000 and better then encyclopaedic knowledge of all musicians of that era. His 'Jazz Wizards' played in his own club and in various clubs the city. (He started as a rocker- check the original 'Roadhouse' movie). I listened to Jeff's program often, but have only seen him live handful of times. It was always a great experience. Chris 'Bucky' Banks may have played in Jeff's band, as he is an excellent bassist, but Colin Bray was his regular bass player. This was a tribute concert and several of the original 'Jazz Wizards' were on stage.

A red-winged blackbird singing.

The Wintergarten Orchestra does not perform often. It's a collection of mostly classically trained musicians, who get together once in a while to play jazz from 1920's-1930's. Led by trombonist Bill Beecroft and fronted by two vocalists Tanya Wills and Ted Atherton. Tanya sings in English, French and "einwandfrei" German and her repertoire includes some Marlene Dietrich classics. Both vocalist are also actors, so it's a show, musical performance and a dance all in one. The sousaphone player is Herb Poole. Herb is an interesting character, who not only plays variety of brass instruments, but also repairs them.
