Mitch Kapor, Chairman, Linden Research - SL:MitchK Linden speaks to a packed house about his work in the development of future technology bringing the physical and virtual worlds closer together.

Visitors immersed in the multisensorial virtual space at the heart of the installation contributed by Mexican artist Miguel Chevalier, on the Historic Grounds of the Château De Chaumont-Sur-Loire. In this digital installation of “Trans-Natures”, artificial plants and flowers are projected at 360 degrees on the walls of a dome, while music specially composed by Jacopo Baboni Schilingi accompanies the projected images. Visitors are invited to lay on a glossy black floor that creates a circular water-mirror effect that reflects the entire projection, and, together with mirrors around the dome’s entire circumference, magnifies the space.

In this day and age, much of our time is spent on the internet searching for information, seeking advice, or being entertained. Many of people become someone else everyday on the internet. People lie about their age, gender and occupation as a matter of course on forums and e-communities, and shift identities even more intensely when playing virtual world video games. Thousands of online groups of people with similar interests have formed. These groups meet daily in chat rooms, bulletin boards, and email.

Inspired by photographer Matthew Pillsbury’s work, I have utilized long exposure and available light settings on camera. I attempted to capture the interaction between people in their physical environment interaction with their virtual world and persona.
