VÃkurkirkja is a church built between 1931 and 1934 when the population of VÃk was growing and no longer wanted to travel to the church in the neighbouring village for every mass. The area around VÃk à Mýrdal can be seen in the very first scenes of the film "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story". The landscape has also played a role in "Noah" and "Game of Thrones".

Three black basalt columns called the Reynisdrangar protrude from the stormy North Atlantic. Legend has it that the rocks are three trolls, caught out too late and frozen by the early morning sunlight.

the vast and wonderful coastline at Vik in South iceland as seen from nearby Cape Dyrholaey. One may appreciate the wonderful black volcanic beach, the gorgeous monolithic structures made of columnar basalt, called Reynisdrangar.

These beautifully frosted mountains looking like a sugar-powdered tiramisu are located close to Vik in South Iceland. I loved the hill with its vantage point from where we were shooting this landscape and when I noticed the kind of "fence" at the border of the road I had to chuckle. This is what I call creative fencing.

auf die Kirche von VÃk à Mýrdal. Die Kirche wurde 1934 auf einem Hügel des Ortes erbaut. VÃk à Mýrdal ist der südlichste Ort auf Island. Wir hatten das Glück den Ort bei schönstem Sonnenschein zu besuchen. Der schwarze Strand zählt zu einem der 10 schönsten Strände der Welt.

ganz in der Nähe von VÃk in Island hat man in der Ferne den Blick auf die versteinerten Trolle von Reynisdrangar und die hohe Steilküste.
Ein Spaziergang am Strand ist ein einmaliges Erlebnis, der Kontrast zwischen dem blauen Meer und dem schwarzen Strand (hier aber im Gegenlicht) sind ein einfach ein Vergnügen.

Dark Skies over Reynisfjara Beach. One of the most popular but also most dangerous places in Iceland. Recently another tourist drowned taken unaware by the sneaker waves and incredibly strong current. A beautiful place to visit but also one to stay well away from the water.

While you drive towards VÃk à Mýrdal from Reykjavik you cannot miss the beautiful white church with the red roof. It is a wooden church built in 1929 up on the hill.
