Quadrature is a audio/visual performance project by Griduo* in collaboration with Due3* that interacts with the perception of santralistanbul Art and Culture Center’s Main Gallery building located in Istanbul/Turkey. It shows how audio/visual techniques can transform, create, expand, amplify and interpret spaces by using large scale video projections on architecture.

It is a live audio/visual performance composed of animated monochrome geometrical shapes matching the real size and form of the quadrilateral alluminium modules which form the facade of the building. The visual performance is accompanied with a digitally produced soundscape consisting of abstract sounds synchronized to the movement of images re-shaping and transforming the building on which they are projected. The building in turn influences and transforms the projections as well.

*Griduo is formed of Alican Aktürk and Refik Anadol both graduate students and teaching assistants in İstanbul Bilgi University Visual Communication Design. Working in the fields of live video/audio performance and architectural photography, the duo is particularly interested in the relationship between architecture and media.

architectural space intervention

Multimedia art duo Martin Mayer and Quirin Empl specialize in interior and exterior 3D video mapping - an art form that uses the architecture, shape and conditions of the room to project moving images, light or graphics on abstract surfaces, and thus creating an entirely new atmospheric space.

"How it would be, if a house was dreaming"

The conception of this project consistently derives from its underlying architecture - the theoretic conception and visual pattern of the Hamburg Kunsthalle. The Basic idea of narration was to dissolve and break through the strict architecture of O. M. Ungers "Galerie der Gegenwart". Resultant permeabilty of the solid facade uncovers different interpretations of conception, geometry and aesthetics expressed through graphics and movement. A situation of reflexivity evolves - describing the constitution and spacious perception of this location by means of the building itself.

We were delighted to be commissioned by the City of Liverpool to devise a 30 minute Video Mapping Show as the visual climax to the cities celebrations to mark the historic visit of the three largest Liners in the prestigious Cunard fleet. We created a show for over 80,000 visitors over the course of three nights.Always looking to the future and confident of its past, the essence of Liverpool was boldly brought to life to celebrate the city and its historic links with the Cunard Line. Three iconic buildings along the Pier Head collectively referred to as the “Three Graces” were transformed into a video mapped canvas to perform “The Amazing Graces”Featuring a Sea of Faces of the people that make up the rich cultural heritage of Liverpool along with scenes from Cunard’s vast history we devised and produced a 25 minute spectacle complete with a specially commissioned score by composer Pete M Wyer. The show was developed in consultation with the people of Liverpool with “Hope Street Ltd” carrying out local research and audience engagement. Creative Director, John Sims wanted to create a show with video mapping at its heart that was capable of reaching out into the audience. In order to advance the narrative and to spread the effect across the widest audience area we deployed waterscreens, Aerial Artists, Lasers, and Water Fountains throughout.

The Marquis de Pombal 18th century country estate in Oeiras opened to the public as a visitable monument in June 2015, following extensive restoration work - much needed after decades of inconsiderate use as office space.

To mark the occasion, the municipality threw a series of late night multimedia parties called "Nights at the Enchanted Palace", involving video mapping and light installations in the gardens and onto the facades of the various estate buildings.

The event was produced by OCUBO (Nuno Maya and Carole Purnelle) and had an estimated total attendance of 40,000 people.

The city of Besançon chose PROIETTA to promote the Victor Hugo Museum opening through the videomapping.

The historic birthplace facades has been mapped and enriched with light and animated effects that have told about the character of Victor Hugo to the public for three consecutive nights. The videomapping and the audio editing have been entirely designed by the PROIETTA staff who has also involved in the installation and operation of the event on site.

Two image projectors PROIETTA Monster 2500, ideal for long-distance projections, have projected from more than 500 m of distance the communication of the event.

gigantic digital eyes (3'5 meters each one) that observe and register metaphorically the public. Their infinite opening and closing (zap ) give birth to the external world from the internal one, building a new expansive architecture of the body and in particular of the sense of the vision. The EYE, like an expanded space, is a live organism that observes, controls, analyses, registers (eye/I recorder) and builds, a simulation of the reality, a mental image (simulacre). This Public Video Art express the dual idea of the physical and electronic eye (EYE, but also video) and the inner identity of the pronoun: Eye recorder (eye recording) but also I recorder (me recording). As in a glass-image (Deleuze), the onlooker becomes the simulacre/work of art created by the looking of the video creature.

The large-format projection on the facade of the Brno House of Arts took place on December 20th, 2021, on the second anniversary of Woody Vasulka's passing. The projected audiovisual remix was created from fragments of videos by Steina and Woody Vasulka, which were interwoven with visualizations of the pseudo-cognitive processes of artificial neural networks. It can be seen as a translation of the functional features of intelligent software (its ability to sort by shared qualities) into the language of film montage. The result is a new audio-visual work referring to the aesthetics of a music video.
