Cynthia Martinez’s vicla was built by her husband, Gilbert Adelmann, who worked with Steady Custom Cycles to get bars and pipes to fit the older-model motorcycle. Martinez wanted her vicla to depict an Aztec princess—”a woman with strength, pride, and beauty.” She relayed this idea to Malo at Jrs Kustoms, who created the themed murals. The motorcycle has appeared at such shows like SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) in 2023. (Source: Petersen Automotive Museum)

This vicla was built by Donald Montoya and Mark Lujan at their Albuquerque shop, La Vida Customs. The motorcycle is raked from head to tail, with elevated beach-cruiser handlebars, a headlight from a 1938 Chevrolet car, and a front wheel that fits up in the headlamp shell. Montoya describes his customizing as “rasquache”—a Chicano art philosophy based on using any available materials. La Charra, the Horse Girl.
This Harley-Davidson Road King was purchased by Josephine Trevino for her husband, Robert Trevino, who, with his son Robert Jr., began the three-year process of crafting it into the vicla (the term for a custom lowrider motorcycle) “La Charra.” In the tradition of many modern viclas, modifications included the extensive engraving and plating of numerous metal elements like the frame, headlight bezels, swing arms, forks, wheels, and engine. “La Charra” won Lowrider’s Lowrider Motorcycle of the Year award in both 2022 and 2023.
